The Circle - 3D Web Game! by Nikolaj

[raw]
made by Nikolaj for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

On a foraging trip to find unobtanium in the far reaches of quadrant Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, our intrepid hero finds themselves snagged by a Space Loop, a Circular track. The only hope of escape is to collect the antimatter crystals and dodge massy fragments, thus escaping each successive loop before finally escaping. Dodge left / right to avoid obstacles and gather crystals! Try to look up the track and wiggle to stay in the zone!

Fully a web game made with THREE.js / CANNON.js, music by Kevin (team member) with ship model from Kenney.nl. Works somewhat on mobile with tapping on the screen left/right. Also supports a joystick/gamepad on the X-Axis.

Great game, it was pretty hard to reach the left or right sides though.

Fun little runner game! Could get interesting if you explored the "changing loops" concept more - perhaps allowing the player to activate or collect powerups to shift between loops at will

really addictive with some cool vaporwave-esque graphics.

Really engaging graphics and fun gameplay! Could be expanded with a difficulty setting? Good job :)

Looks good and trippy. It is quite fun, the sounds and music is quite good too!
The transition of loops can be pretty dangerous, maybe it would be nice to do something about that.

Sounds and music are great. I liked the concept and it fits the theme well.
I found that on occasion, it felt unresponsive. I would go left or right and the delay would cause me to either miss the green object or hit a pink one.
I liked how the difficulty picked up as well as being able to pick the difficulty. I played on difficult first then "let me win" haha I enjoyed that. Overall a fun classic style game.

Fun game. Good ides, decent mechanics. Took a little to understand the left/right in terms of you can't actually fly off the loop, and you don't have to aim for the pickups, just get in either the left/right/middle line and you automatically get what is in your path. The only change I'd suggest is some logic on pickup/barrier placement. A number of times they were literally on top of each other or as I flew into a new loop I'd hit a barrier as it was in my path before I was able to start controlling movement. Just a few tweaks and you've got something that is really engaging. Add more loops, etc to expand to a full blown game.

The audio is very well put together, and I found the gameplay fun. I only had two problems, and that was with the collision detection and object placement. I felt that you had to be very precise to actually collide with the green or purple objects, which is both good and bad, although many times I'd feel like I should have hit it but did not, I understand if it's based on the three-row positions as opposed to actual position, and it wasn't really that bad. The other problem was that sometimes the objects would spawn on top of each other, which again not really that bad it just looked a little rough to see. Other than perhaps cleaning up the menu a bit, this looks great, and to me is a solid entry!

Nice game, I like the music but I get quite dizzy if I'm playing too much :D

It's a fun game overall and I really like the music of this game. Also cool to see that you made this in three. J's. The only tip I can give is that maybe there is an exploit. I can wiggle between the two lanes and never get hit. By adding some obstacles in between some lanes you can prevent that.

hey nice game, but a little hard, just one things, when whe change a loop, the transitions phases can be disturbing for the player because sometimes hides the blocks.
i like the music

Neat idea, definitely woke me up because of the speed haha, had to really pay attention. For me it was a rather quick experience, I beat normal and hard modes first try, but I do like that you were careful about difficulty since I could see this getting pretty tricky (and also make your eyes dry up).

I thought the loop visuals were really neat actually. The feeling of jumping from one to another is so much better than just fading out and now you're on a harder stage. Good twist to the formula.

Overall I thought the entry was good. I like tight, action experiences and this is the definition of that, well done!

I'm not familiar with three.js development. What are its strengths and weaknesses?

This game is incredible ! I personnaly love arcade games, and even if it's a little bit short, it's fun to get into all the loops ! The controls are a little bit weird at max level, on the last 2 loops, it feels really hard to control the ship.

It's still an awesome game, thank you for this dev guys !! You can be really proud of yourself !

I like the music and the visuals. The gameplay is simple and okay. I would say that the easy difficulty is a bit too difficult.

It was really fun game! I enjoyed it a lot, and it was hard at some moments. Controlls physics are a bit "meh", but it makes game harder so I like it.

Nice game. I am not sure if I prefer the auto-centering of the ship, but it does not take away form the playability. Nice audio as well.

I'm sure you are aware by now that sometimes the collectibles spawn inside of the collidables. I agree with others that the "move back to center" feels odd and I would prefer an option to disable it. Neat game
