STUCK IN ORBIT by Baiketsu

[raw]
made by Baiketsu for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Stuck in Orbit is our first game for the Ludum Dare. We only had 2 days to make the game. We did everything ourselves: music, images, graphics and """physic engine""" ... We hope you'll have fun playing it.

LORE :

You work for a Space Delivery Agency, and you have to deliver parcels through the galaxy. But here's the problem. Your spaceship is almost empty of fuel and you will be stuck in the deep space.

To accomplish your duty, you have to orbit and loop around planets to propulse your ship towards your destination, as fast as possible !

capture02.png

GAMEPLAY :

Press any key of your keyboard to get out of the orbit in straight line. You have to jump multiple times to go to the last planet.

Warning : avoid planets, asteroids and deep space ! Target another orbit to move forward.

Since it's a speed run game, try to get to the last planet as fast as possible to be the fastest deliverer of the galaxy. The 5 best times are saved and shared online.

WHERE TO PLAY :

The game is design to work on computer, on modern web browser like Chrome and Firefox.

The link to play is https://stuckinorbit.vercel.app/

Thanks you for playing, and for your feedback !

@tomeks Thank you for playing. What is your size Screen ? It's seen that the planet is truncated in the right of the screen ! Can you try to Zoom out ?

@blacktarus you are correct, I am on macBook pro 13 inch 2020, chrome full screen, need to zoom to 90% to see the end point. Very nice game simple control but very engaging <3

Cool game with a simple concept! only flaw is rocket a little bit slow for me. A bit more speed makes the gameplay more polished and hard.

Good entry right here. Simple game idea but a very effective hook. Had a lot of fun playing the game.

Nice Job! It took me an a minute to realize I needed to zoom out to be able to see the entire level. The only real change I'd suggest is increasing the speed of the rocket when it's in orbit.

Nice concept. There is many space games in this LD :)
Music and sound effects are realy fitting to game.
I think that there should be time penalty when ship is crashed.
Also there can be additional separate score stytem for jump count.

Really nice mechanic - actually quite similar to mine! I think there's scope for a great game here, although it can get very boring waiting to align - especially on larger planets - and I must admit I quit before finishing the final level because of that sorry!

There should probably be more of a time penalty for crashing - the roatation-speed boost from changing orbit encourages an approch of flinging yourself into the void as often as possible, since if you miss you don't really lose anything versus sitting patiently for a perfect alignment with the planet you actually want to get to. (Though the fling-yourself-to-repeated-fiery-deaths approach is a lot of fun - so maybe I'm wrong and it shouldn't be disncouraged?)

I just finished it! Interesting gameplay and nice music! Maybe it will be more fun if the orbit speed can be faster. ^_^

This was awesome fun, I would have continued for at least 10 more levels :D . I would love a "least jumps" high score. Making it more of a puzzle than an action game.

Great, smooth and clean game!

The only thing I was missing is something to speed the game up a little, so the waiting time after missing your jump can be reduced, especially while flying around the bigger planets ^^"

Nevertheless, well done! :)

Very nice game!
Only issue I had with the gameplay was the speed while orbiting. It was tiresome to wait for the ship to orbit a big planet for another jump :P

A pretty game with nice music and simple but fun orbital mechanics. The only problem is the orbiting speed .. it's too fast at first to be able to aim properly and then it's suddenly too slow on the next orbit.

Simple and fun, I really like it! I'd speed up the orbiting though... or maybe make it dependent on the size of the thing we're orbiting - big planets are easier to hit but we orbit slower, smaller planets are harder to hit but we orbit faster. I'd also welcome some kind of penalty for crashing.

A super simple and fun little game idea. I overall liked the game, but it sometimes gets a bit too slow. The music and visuals is all good, and it fits the game idea well.

Cool game!

Had fun playing it. It's simple but it plays well. I found no issues with the game. Only thing that bothered me was that the orbiting got a little boring at some points. Other than that it's a nice game.

Good job!

Nice job on this one. I've thought about making a game with a similar mechanic. From a gameplay side, I felt it was a little slow. I think you could restart every time you mess up, or maybe there is a timer that you have to beat. I also thought the art could've been more dynamic. But this is a cool concept, and I encourage you to keep pursuing it!

I almost made a similar game for the jam so I'm delighted to implement this idea properly.

It was a bit weird at first having to actually scroll the page to see the whole level, especially since it clashed with spacebar on levels with large vertical height. But it does work so it's not a huge deal.

I agree that the rocket should move a bit faster around the planets, I got a bit impatient at some point.

The presentation I really liked. Graphics are nice and clear (although the rocket stood out a bit in my opinion). Gameplay is rather simple but well implemented. Overall, I enjoyed it. Well done!
