Quantum Loops by necauqua

AND/OR PLAY WITHOUT READING EVERYTHING BELOW LOL >>here<<

There is a particle forced to exist in a quantum loop and it really hates being real!

Disrupt the quantum levels with most efficient use of your energy to let it escape back into nothing!

This is a very simple minimalist aim trainer type of puzzle game, I call it aim puzzle or also (when I make harder levels) aim hell puzzle.

Tutorial:

  • This game is intended to be hard, but the only truly hard-ish level atm once you know the concept is the last one.

  • There is an in-game tutorial which explains everything, but it is a bit obscure because of the lore (quantum levels and stuff). So you can stop reading here, but come back if you didn't understand the game :)

  • You can press R for a quick restart, and also Esc for pause menu.

  • The particle (blue dot) jumps on the non-disrupted(!) ring with the highest energy level (the little number near it).

  • The objective is to make it so the particle cannot jump on any of the rings by disrupting them in certain order.

  • You can disrupt the ring by crossing (by dragging your mouse) the ring that the particle is on - and not any other (!)

  • Disrupted rings un-disrupt themselves with different speeds, this is indicated by their transparency.

  • Energy used per disruption = ring energy + time in seconds * length of the stroke, so if you fail the second level pay closer attention to the numbers and this tutorial.

  • Your score is the efficiency, its 100% if you disrupt all levels by using 0 pixels and 0 seconds, and 0% if you use exactly all available energy.

Now I think you must have enough of understanding to actually play that game, it's pretty fun actually.

Extras:

This game written almost entirely (+ a couple of lines of JS and HTML glue) in Rust with the help of WebAssembly. This does not mean WebGL (didn't have enough prep, would love to), this is literally an HTML5 canvas game, just written in Rust :)

This means that it can be played just in one click on most platforms - sorry mobile, or anyone with a touchcreen, not today, besides, aim puzzle by definition requires a mouse.

This is technically my second jam, but I did not submit anything then, so now it's time.

Initially I was going to use Amethyst (a Rust game engine) but 2 days before the jam it stopped working due to some dependency issues so I needed to quickly choose something else - so I wrote some basecode which is basically a very simple 2d game engine in Rust (where it draws on the HTML5 canvas because I didn't have any time for WebGL haha) - and ended up not using sprites at all and wasting most of Day One fixing sounds :)

I quite like the final result and I had some fun streaming the development of it.

Oh, I used a free piece of musical art for the background music - and never left the credit (yet):

Its Slow Motion by Bensound, I'll plug it at least there for now: www.bensound.com

I also made a timelapse of coding it, it's pretty boring, but it has some beautiful music :)

Really hard to grasp the controls and how it plays
But I like the concept and overall aesthetic
Good job!

Really smooth game. Very impressing that you wrote it nearly from scratch, not using any framework. I liked the story you tell in the tutorial very much.
But unfortunately, I did not quite get the hang of the game concept. Kept loosing in the second level.
Keep up the good work!

Ok. Fun but hard game. I like what you made out of the Jam's theme :D

A simple game mechanic, yet a hard game. I liked it! Well done :)

It took me a while to figure out, but I was able to understand it eventually. I also wrote a WebGl engine for this jam (although I used Javascript). The advantage of drawing on the 2D canvas like you did is text rendering. We used text sprites in our game, because text in WebGL is not easy!

Great effort to do this in WebGL. The first level took me quite a while, but once I got the knack is was pretty fun. Ended up with ~20% on the last level. Nice one.

The concept is a bit obscure and i had a bit of difficulty understanding what was going on, but the game was quite fun when i understood it finally. As you already have a textual tutorial, you could always indicate that you need to draw something with the mouse.
You could also reduce the size of what the user has to read or have some orbiting things around to make it more attractive.
The sounds and background music were very fitting.
A great game overall ! Hats off to you for making it with your custom engine.

Oh my GOD that was hard. It took me a second to figure out the mechanic, but jeez is this just a mouse accuracy test (and god am I bad)

Cool idea, cool implementation. As a competitive CSGO player it feels almost too easy, just a couple of tries on the last one:

I really like that game. It takes a bit to understand what's going on but then it's really fun and engaging.
I managed to beat all the levels except the last one with >90% efficiency. But the last one is really tough to get a high score :D

@pschichtel The real aim trainer level had a twice smaller ring radius and 5 seconds instead of 7 and a lot of people complained calling it unbeatable :) Then they learned about the last one, hahaha

@stefan-laimer 80%?? OMG.

In other levels I have >96% atm, 99.23% in the first one :)

But yeah for the last one to get >90 you just need to super precicely spam click 5 rings in 1 second I think

Yeah I'm too slow for that xD But I did a quick 1-2-3 1-4-5 combination and that worked pretty well :D

And I almost beat your first level score, but I'm getting too slow now

@stefan-laimer, I once almost got 1-2-3-4-1-5, but mist after the 4. this game is addictive... make it stop :D

This entry has the MOST relaxing mood so far, even though it challenges with some mouse work. Really like the graphics & sound approach, fits very nice with the concept of atom drawn on a paper, reminds me of school a bit.

Controls were a bit hard to grasp before I got first success (I didn't associate the length of the "cut" with energy cost), but then it was easy.
..Also got 2% efficiency on last level, but it works!

P.S. It's nice to see a familiar face once in a while. Maybe I was using other username on a certain modding site. Hello Minecraft modding fans! :)

@gaz-ireland wow, this looks like some kind of dpi issue

Did you try another browser/device? What is your screen/browser?

On a 4k display for me everything was a bit smaller/thinner but still playable.

Anyway my current implementation is indeed far from best so this will likely be fixed in the future, I am sorry for the inconvenience

Also this should only apply to text, so you can click through the tutorial - the lower right pixel blob is the next button, and then actually play, and read what to do here in the description

At first I was quite confused because I skipped the intro (not a fan of reading), but then I got the hang of it, and it a pretty good mouse aim trainer! Very cool. The music is soothing too, with the satisfying sound effects.

Wow this was a very nice deviation from the standard aim trainer. A real cool variation where you need both speed and precision on the drag!

Like others I tried to go in blind but couldn't figure it out. I was assuming I needed to drag a line from the center to a ball and release when the ball was nearby, but alas. I came back here and your description helped me along just fine.

The last puzzle was by far the most fun, a bit of execution mixed with memorization (my game does this as well). It took a few tries to remember which ones I needed to backtrack on but I eventually got it.

Some of the scores here are quite good! Really impressed with some of them.

A unique entry overall. I really like aim trainers, made one myself last jam, and this is a take on it I never thought of. Awesome!

It sure is interesting and good job on doing it only WebGL. Don't know what more to think about it, I like the mechanics but not my type of tea I guess.
