Untitled Tree Game by Raphaeltan

[raw]
made by Raphaeltan for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Balance your tree while still letting it grow! I made this game completly solo from scratch (except for the sound effects). It's my first Ludum Dare and first 3D game, and I think the result is pretty good :) Ask if you want builds, but I think that webGL is well enough.

Enjoy!!

The pinkish transition thing doesn't move completely out of the way after starting the game so half the screen is not visible (mac/chrome).

I really like the visual style and gameplay.
Some music would have made it even better, but it's a nice game overall

What a TREEat. In all seriousness, wonderfully done. Serene and calming. Definitely stands out against the rest of the high octane games I've played for this jam

It's cute! I like the feeling with birdsong too. It took me one play-through to actually figure out the goal, but it was nice experience!
(I got a little stuck with the controls - the tree grew off the top of the screen - but that might have been my error)

Very relaxing game! First thing I thought was "Man thats a lot of controls" but luckily you just pick the ones that work the best for you  unfortunately my tree broke down at 9000 points while there were no branches growing. Oh will it already got pretty big. Keep it up!

Fantastic, I love that game. I had to play several times. The game make you to let it grow. I don't really care about the score. I miss a color palette as comfortable as the game. GG guys.

Sooo calming, both the art and the gameplay. Very soothing sort of game. I enjoyed it! I also like how easy / intuitive it is to learn despite having quite a lot of controls.

Really fun game! Makes me wish I could tell better if the tree starts to be unbalanced. I'm assuming it's the colour of the leaves though?

Well done! I love your low-poly graphics! Great sound, wich immerse into the atmosphere of taking care of tree. But I've been a little confused because of rotating all the time…

Very interesting and unique game! I also noticed that the tree mesh is procedurally generated, that's awesome! Well done!

Nice little calming game! Unique idea...Birds are also soothing. Some score count or something on the screen to show progress may be helpful. My tree grow a lot... ![gameplay.png](///raw/9c4/c2/z/3319e.png)

I'm not sure I get why there are so many controls, since just mouse rotation and zooming is usually enough. I don't like that the camera is spinning by default - it's disorienting and doesn't seem to serve any purpose. Luckily I figured out how to turn that off with +/-.

The atmosphere of the game is nice and calming, though actually playing it is surprisingly stressful. The random growth of branches makes it feel like your success is a bit random at first - sometimes I'd get my first two branches too close to each other and it felt like there was no choice but to just cut both of them. Everything grows rather quickly, too, and sub-branches are often obscured by leaves, so rather than making a careful analysis of the tree and being very careful with my decisions, I often felt like I was scrambling to try and cut branches on instinct, especially due to the fact that once the tree starts to noticeably fall, its likely much too late to do anything about it. Some sort of indicator of the tree's current balance, like an arrow on top, would help a lot.

Peaceful game, easy to understand and challenging to play. Sometimes it's a bit hard to see what's going on / too late to do something. Nice simple graphics. :)
