Stayin Alive by Tanapat

[raw]
made by Tanapat for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

 Everything was created by me however the basic concept of a dance game belongs to my friend Emily. This is my second game I have made and my first published one. All artworks, music etc are made by me. The dances and background image are derivative works under fair use. Any criticism would be appreciated but keep in mind that I am still quite new to this. Also tell me if you enjoyed :) The key mechanics for those who are interested are: Hitting the notes = +100; Hitting the notes outside of range = -100; Missing notes = -1 hit point; 5 hit points total; Below 100 score = loss;

I found the game very unforgiving. With a bit more polish I think it could have turned out a bit better. Perhaps a life system or something too? Did think it was funny :)

Good effort!

@jetthesimon Hi Jet, thanks for the feedback. I do have a life system in place however I agree that I should probably have put a visual indicator for how much life you have.

@tater-hater thanks tater. I might include a download link for the Hard difficulty soundtrack after the event is over as that was the most 'complete' one I did

It's a good job for a beginner.
The base game play works, so you have to make the game more juicy.

Keep going !

I enjoyed this game, some visual or audio feedback on how good you timed the beats would have been great.

I don't remember how many points I got but I got over 20,000 points at some point in the game.

I bet your game will come first in the audio category!

Very good try. I think overall, since I'm a musician I judged it a bit more harshly knowing that was the foundation, and the notes not being in sync with the music is a big negative for me. the fact that you can tell when you miss is pretty nice, but there's no other feedback for anything else. If I had one tip, it would be, give feedback. Players want to know they have done something. I still think, especially for the first game, good try! Keep making games!

The link says that the developer has not uploaded a game yet. Would like to play it, @ me when it fixed.

The game is cool. If the game could be synchronized with the rhythm it would be perfect. Good job

Looks like the WebGL build either isn't published or isn't uploaded. For a solo project, this is alarmingly well put together! A rhythm game is immensely difficult to pull off and a unique interpretation of the theme but echo the feedback that some sort of visual indicator of performance may help out a bit more. All considered, given the time constraints, you did a phenomenal job and I look forward to seeing future Dare entries!

Hey @megamasterx , @ashtheevil thanks for telling me, I only had the opportunity to fix it now but the webgl should be up.
Thanks for the feedback @bubbadubc , @megamasterx , @monkeydvrus , @thecze . I definitely agree that I should have implemented synchronisation and visual indicators, I can no longer do it for this game but for my next game I will implement those as they seem like vital game mechanics.

And @everyone(not sure if that works), thanks for all the love. I didn't even expect this to get played by 10 people so... well I am really happy, so thank you.

The music is awesome, I love that track. I wish there was more feedback for when you hit the notes correctly (besides the score counter) but this is a great first entry. Congratulations on finishing the Jam, that's quite an achievement.

Pretty fun game, but I would have liked some added twist. The concept is currently quite similar to other rhythm games. The music was nice; great how it changes as your score increases. Though, the score counter is very hard to spot (small and low contrast with the background). I would also like more feedback on whether or not I pressed at the right time. Maybe the arrows can be at the same height as the static arrows as well; now it just seems to be all over the place. Lastly, the game just ends when you reach 4000. Making it infinite and ramping up the difficulty would create some replay value (with a highscore system). Overall quite good, well done.

The game is a good one for being your second one, I would think of adding something to know where the song is ending, and some feedback(audio or particles) on whenever you hit the key right or wrong. Also you might wanna check for a system tha helps you go for a "Woo I won!!!" like the stars in guitar hero. Keep it up :D

Nice audio!! Good job : ) I would say that if there were more sound and visual effects when you hit the notes it would be more immersive~
