Telefun by Don Fouts

[raw]
made by Don Fouts for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

screenshot_01.png

It’s your first day on the job at the Sunset Valley Nursing Home. Your manager has asked you to help one of the residents with a banking issue before you go home. Can you navigate the bank’s automated menu system without getting stuck in a loop?

Each level has solutions that are randomly generated each time you start. All answers to the questions asked can be found inside the scene. Move and throw objects around the scene to find the information before time runs out and you're sent back to the start.

Three songs were used that we did not create, all other sounds/audio were made by our team. 1. Crab Rave by Noistorm 2. Opus No 1 by Tommy Dorsey 3. Brightest Day by Firstcom Music

Update Note: We pushed an update to the Web GL version that fixed a game breaking bug when throwing objects. The original file that was created for the jam is still available for download. This bug was caused by the last minute cut of a "rage bar" that would increase throwing strength as the character's frustration levels built up from failed actions.

We didn't know what to expect behind the QR Code. The controls are a bit buggy, but overall this is especially fun to play in a group.

Such a unique and fun idea, very funny! I kept encountering an error which froze the game though so I wasn't able to get far.

I think its a cool game idea.

The thing that did not work for me was the weird controls for rotating the cards, so I can read them easily. One time the card even fell out of view, and I had to restart the game.

What!! I'm so impressed you managed to create a game with such production quality in just a few days. I wish you all good look and hope to see you in the next jam! :D

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, we must have flipped a switch that we shouldn't have prior to our last build. I just double checked and can confirm there's a game breaking bug when you try to throw something. We learn something with each LD entry and I think the lesson from this is to give plenty of time for play testing. Again, we really appreciate all the feedback and will do our best to play all the games of those who tried ours out!

This has crazy good production quality, and I love the puzzle design. The only issue I had is that it's incredibly difficult to orient objects correctly, so I spent all my time just trying to pick up a piece of paper I knew I had the answer. Still, awesome job and disturbingly authentic!

Great work, the graphics look great, the audio is very well placed and juicy, and the idea of clunky physics for moving mundane objects is really creative and humorous. The game's concept is a very creative take on the theme! I gotta say I didn't go very far on the game, though, haha. The controls were pretty hard to manage (even though I assume this is intentional, it got a little frustrating at times) and the aformentioned bug forbade the throwing. But it's an impressive work for a jam nonetheless!

Like others have said the controls are kinda crazy, i mean partially that was your goal I think for the physics goofiness but its really easy to lose stuff off the table. Great clean visuals though, everything besdes some of the physics controls feels really polished.

Funny concept! Love the cheesy voice acting and music. Art style is nice to look at. I did get stuck at one point after trying to enter my 5th letter of my name, i jumped the gun before the dialogue finished and I think that broke it.

This must be one of my favorites so far! Really unique concept and well executed. Sure, the controls are a bit wonky and the collision sometimes acts up. But, it is absolutely playable and the potential is clear. Imagine playing this in VR!!

Congratulations!!

Darn, she hung up on me. Great job. I see this as a VR game. Was that part of the design intent?

Great presentation and concept - it's only hitting now that being on customer service calls feels like you're in an ednless loop. I recently dealt with a car sitation that laste for months and this hit home lol.

Really funny and good idea, my only criticism is that manipulating the objects was really, really difficult. Started to feel less like a puzzle and more like a fight against the mechanics.
Overall though, I had a good time and I like how clever it was!

Wow. Simply wow! I can't believe you made this in 72 hours. Seriously!
You've made those nightmare bank calls entertaining and funny. I'll try to remember how much fun I had with your game the next time I'm in one of these situations. Seriously, you nailed every aspect of it!

I laughed my ass off as soon as I realised what was happening, hilarious concept for a game.
The physics were a bit of a pain in the ass, possibly because of browser mode, but I was able to play after some practice. Love the humor, love the graphics, I love how I got so mad I mashed the keys and actually jammed one of them in the phone, I assume that's a joke but I still laughed my ass off when it happened.
Great concept and pretty good execution, I just wish the physics were a bit less hostile.
