A Lost Child by Klaus Peter

[raw]
made by Klaus Peter for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

This is a game where you help a small child find the way home. Of course a lot of evil monsters will try to stop you from that.

Screenshot (64).png That's how you meet. Screenshot (61).png And that are the evil monsters. Screenshot (62).png

Controls: * WASD or arrow keys - for movement * space, enter or "E" - for interaction with people and objects

Some info about the night with the monsters: * the night takes 2 minutes * the more square your browser window is, the better you will be able to see the monsters approaching (refresh the website to update the size of the game)

I tested the game in Firefox and Chrome and it somehow worked better in Chrome

*the game does not load for when I have ad blocker enabled*

I really like what you did with the playable intro and the cinematic cutscenes, it really helps creating a good atmosphere for your game.

👍pretty nice concept!

It doesn't work..

I liked:
- the colors and the art
- gameplay was simple and controls easy to grasp

What was missing:
- movement animations for the main character
- any score indicator or indicator for when (or if) the night was ending

The game did not work in firefox for me. Nonetheless, congrats on finishing a great game :)

You should add some animations.

Works on my system, also with ad-blocker. Fun little game-mechanic. The mood in the night is also good. Unfortunately games without sound tend to feel a little bit "empty".

The intro sequence was cool.
I like the character design.

Shame you didn't have the time to write the wood gathering part.
How long does the night last? They never stopped coming!

@jonah Good to hear that you liked the cutscenes :D I was already a bit afraid that it was too much talking and too little action.

@peto184 Thanks for the feedback. Personally I would have liked to add animations but I spent too much time on the trees xD

@majadroid I agree that the feels empty without sound. I just have very little experience in making music or creating sounds.

@xeke-death The night is 2 minutes long. I wanted it to be a bit challlenging :P

I like the concept, it fits the theme well and the mood is great. I like how you used lighting. It would be good if it got harder faster and kept track of the number of monsters you kill.

Simple and very enjoyable. The intro made me care about the objective

I think the speed is too slow now :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: but might be cuz I'm used to your debug speed hehe

it was interesting to protect the child, but this is endless game?

@gonzo13 the attack in the night ends after 2 minutes

I liked your idea here. I think animations would be great addition for your game. I wasn't able to survive the 2 minutes in the night attack, so I don't know what happens after that. The child's position made a bit hard to protect her from attacks from the left, when the enemies reached the bonfire. But nice entry! I really liked what you did. Great work!

I like the concept of this game. I couldn't save the kid, though.
Controls are ok, but sometimes I get stuck with either the fire or the kid himself.
Congrats!

Hi, Great game! Pity that without sound. I was really stressed to save the child, unfortunatelly I failed twice already!

I had to open the game in incognito mode (Chrome), otherwise I get error:

Failed to load resource: net::ERR_BLOCKED_BY_CLIENT
collidable.js:6 Uncaught ReferenceError: Hitbox is not defined

Game looks really nice. I looked at the code. It's very impressive that you chose to use p5 for it.

Some sounds would add a lot, as other parts are well done and complete.

Great job. Cheers!

I like the start of the game. The tiles are a bit too big, which makes everything seem so empty. I didn't manage to beat the night and it got very repetitive. I wish it had more exploration and such and the action parts would be shorter in between. Graphics were nice. Good job :)
