Keepin' it Arr-live by JJacobs

[raw]
made by JJacobs for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

You are a pirate on an enemy ship and they will try to kill you! How long can you stay out of Davy Jones'Locker, matey?

Controls: A-D or arrows to move, Space to jump, Q to switch between sword and gun, E or Left mouse button to strike or fire, Flip your character with your mouse position.

I havent gotten to scene managing, tweaking and finetuning and implemeting all the features I wanted, but my parents told me to stop now, before I get square eyes ;)

Please be gently with rating, it's my first real game

The combat didn't feel great I just kinda felt I was swinging at nothing. The enemies feel like they never die and I dislike having to reload my tab to continue playing. The art was well done I liked the style you chose and I think a pirate theme is pretty creative and not many people have chosen that theme yet.

I think your game doesnt have a win state. Nobody wants to play a game that is not beatable. Assuming it is your first game you did a great start. I liked the art but you should think about game designing concepts.

Rooms for improvement
1) An easy way to restart would be to load another scene and load the gameplay scene back. Its an easy way to reset things in unity.
2)The ai sometimes bugs out when they die
3)Enemies spawn too quickly
4)No reason to use sword
Good things
1) good graphics
2) AI other then death seems to work great.

Not bad at all for a first game. I appreciate you being honest about the scene management  to improve, perhaps you could add some sound? I also found that the sword didn't have a long enough range and as such, it didn't stop the enemies attacking you whilst you were attacking them. Some more particles for death animations or others would be nice too.

But it's certainly better than my first game so well done.

@tayfun I fully agree, my intention was to make it either with highscores to make it a competition how many waves you can beat, or have different levels, but I simply didn't had the time for that after I switched game plans two days into the jam, thanks for the good feedback tho!

good for your first real game! I'd be better if you add vfx when the hit impacts, would feel so much better

come'on bring it on.. all of you are not frighten me  this really made my day. i just complaining one thing about this game, please add healing to player or add more player HP or decrease enemy attack. 3-4 times enemy attacking then you died.. however you did good on your first time.. here take my thumb

@amazura Oh boy, I thought I added a line of code saying a max of 15 enemies could spawn, but I didnt had the time to playtest that. Oh well, this is a good laugh too :p
