Alien Endangered by Pyrotrap

[raw]
made by Pyrotrap for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

First Time Ludum Dare Submission

Visual Novel style game where you try to keep an endangered alien creature alive as you transport it to a shelter. Balance researching information on the species with keeping it alive. The traits of the alien are randomized to make playthroughs different.

Please give me whatever feedback you can and thanks for playing!

Now that I have a new computer that hopefully won't cause me as many problems as the last, I'm excited to practice with other game making tools in the meantime so I can do even better in October.

The idea is really great :D , I love conversational games. I can see a lot of work of narrative, I missed to have a UI with information about the progress relationship with the creature and for instance environtmental stats (oxigen, nitrogen, temperature, humidity...)

@Ladycerberus Thanks! There's probably something I could've done with the Ren'Py engine to get that information to show up on screen at all times, but I didn't think to check in time.

The alien dies a little suddenly, I didn't even know I was doing badly. :) This was a really lovely little game all in all, thank you!

nice idea, alien died quite suddenly, though i figured out what the problem was, as i only had one turn i couldn't compensate for it. good effort  .

@gimblll @shugor yeah my bad. I thought of putting in some warnings as the alien got to poor health. I wasn't sure if I was going to do something simple or have some different mechanics/events when the alien was low on health and it just slipped my mind on the last day when I was trying to balance what I had and find a friend/family member to help test.

As you get the opportunity to continue to work on this project, it would benefit from having music and sounds to build up the mood more and the help tell the story too. :)

Hi! I missed a loop background music that engages into the story. I also agree that some UI elements would help to keep track of the relation ship and the status of the room.

I see you put a lot of effort into the narrative, leaving the art quite apart. For next jams, I advice you to spent a couple of hours gathering art from opengameart, itch.io resources and other pages of free resources.

But It's a good concept of game. Congratulations.

Great game! Really liked the narrative and the mystery. Almost got to the end but then my alien instantly died without warning :( Anyways, great submission, good job!
