Rememberance by Enya454
In the near future of 20XX, people are loosing their place in the afterlife. Their tales and lives are leaving the people's minds. Some have taken it upon themselves to re kindle the legend that they once held. It's their job to keep it alive.
You are a reporter from the future, trying to collect evidence on John Johnson so that people can remember him, allowing him into the after life.
You must collect different pieces of evidence which tell of John's legends. After 5 minutes (or after collecting all 6 pieces of evidence) you will be sent back in time to write a report based on what you found. You can either write about the good things you found out about him, or the bad things. Based on your report, he shall

The graphics, or maybe the interactions between them, are a bit rough, though you can still see a lot of effort in them since the art is pretty good in its inherent quality, and the character portraits in particular are surprisingly good, and each NPC (more or less) has one, which is pretty amazing.
The puzzle mechanics make it fairly entertaining, though story-wise they aren't really all that coherent.
Not sure if this is a bug but you can only inspect/throw the last item in the inventory within the circle, that is kinda confusing.
The text shouldn't get bigger depending on the amount of lines, and the lack of contrast with its white font makes it hard to read at times. A hard brown color would make it look nice I believe.
Music doesn't loop, and there should be some more SFX, like step sounds at least.
Surprising scale for a jam game, lots of interactions and stuff all around. I only managed to get 3 evidence items.
Otherwise great job guys :)
The game was pretty cool, most of the art was good, but there was some weird parts, like how floor boards flickered as the camera moved. I really like the story aspect of it, but I feel like you missed out on the real juicy part of the whole setup. At the end, the player gets to decide the sheriff's fate, but ultimately we know nothing about him. We don't know the accuracy of these pieces, what his intentions and values are, he could be a nice guy, or perhaps super cynical... I feel like the story should've gone deeper into who John Johnson was, rather than just list some alleged past actions. I wanna know the guy I'm judging, then be provided the tough choice of whether to smear him or memorialise him.
I still really liked the game, it was neat running around doing errands for people and finding the different clues. I'm super proud that I managed to get the hints just in time, and that's largely due to a well designed time limit. I *really* appreciate that time stopped when you were talking or reading, it made the game so much more approachable and encouraged me to look around. I also really like the opening title card, and the little comic sequence, but the actual game art felt completely different from both of these, and it was a bit jarring. Overall the game was really good, I'm impressed that you guys managed to make all of that in three days, good job team!
I think this blend of RPG and Detective Game has great potential. Keep at it!
Great game, really good job for 72 hours. The running and idle animations are very good. Details like having a running animation are often overlooked in LD, often because of time contraints, but they really make a difference to the world you are creating.
There are some tiling issues. I have seen that a lot in Unity games. People seem to not know how to place 2D tiles in a 3D world next to each other so that they do not create random seems when you move through the world. No deal breaker though.
The opening comic is really cool, I like the layout and how it concisely introduces you to everything you need to know. Not more and not less.
The music fits the game very well. I like that it is more in contrast to the fact that there is a time limit. You could have made a very hectic music to underline that fact but this way I can concentrate on exploring this little world, once I got to two opposing ends of it I knew that 5 minutes will be plenty to solve the puzzles. Although in my first run I did not find the key to the sheriff's house. I misplaced it at some point, picking up something else.
I think the mechanics are easy enoug that you can learn them on your own. You had a tutorial text and the hint to press Q appears when your inventory is full. This is fine. It took me a little while to find out that you could read the letters and they would make room in the inventory. This made my second attempt very easy. I Made the sheriff stay alive for 10 years as a crook, which seems a bit strange considering that I had two pieces of evidence agains him and one for him. I would have rather called him an ordinary guy with ups and downs :-)
The second time I made him look all bad, the third time all good. This means people are now quite confused about his fate...
Great job, really good entry, keep up the good work!
A nice and well scoped submission. While poor in pure mechanical fun, it completely makes up for it with a very neat concept and good use of the theme!
The visuals were pretty nice and rich although their dithering really suffered from the camera not being pixel perfect (see below). I really loved the character portraits!
Really well done, congrats!
