Type or Die by pepperkep

[raw]
made by pepperkep for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Type the text as fast you can, but don't type all of the text that appears before you! Your goal is to keep your computer alive as long as possible, but it will fight you at every step, with weird character, shifting text and other issues.

You really met the criteria with the game. The death noise is really loud and the glitches get really creative as you progress. It does get quite repetitive though (I do however, love the memes).

Really creative submission you have here, I'm always a sucker for typing games. Great way of implementing memes in your work as well. Nice job!

Played 5 or 6 times, so far I got to the Minecraft server message. Nice one! the messages are very disturbing.

This was really fun to play! Easy to understand and pick up, and the glitches and obstacles were really creative. I'd turn the audio down a little - the game over sound was kind of abrasive, but other than that this is a nice, simple entry. Good job!

Well executed idea. It must have been tempting to put in a jump-scare somwhere (maybe you did, I didn't get to the end if there is one).

I love your interpretation of the theme. Adding corrupted characters was a fun way to spice things up !

This was pretty cool lol. I liked the mechanic of the text scrambling and it became extremely hard later on. Good entry :)

This was really creative, never expected anyone to submit a typing game for this jam, but you really nailed it. The only problem I found with the game was that the first time I lost the computer's screen just became blank and I had to reload the page again to replay. Other than that, good job!

The game reminded me of typing practice sessions back in old days. The game gave me some chills with the glitches. I don't know if that was your intention to give some mysterious mood. I enjoyed your game.

This is such a creative twist of the traditional typing tests. The sounds effects serve the style very well. Great job.

Got a laugh out of this! Glitches really threw me off sometimes, especially when it was on something capitalized, but it made it a good twist! really enjoyed it

I love clever typing games, so this one was a blast. I loved the mechanics of the text corrupting over time. It would be really neat if you come up with more cool glitches!

I really liked the extra layer that the corruption adds on top of a traditional typing game. It adds a good sense of panic as you struggle to interpret or remember what the text was going to be.

Our games have similar naming conventions, so that's a plus. :D

Awesome work :)

Here's a few pointers:

* Gameplay was great, as a touch typist it's always a great challenge to play games like this. Reminds me of Type of the dead!

* I like the humour in the game, it was well executed!

* Such a great idea too, I haven't seen any other typing games in the jam so far :)

Hope you guys do the next jam!

Cool game! Towards the end i just started spamming cause my typing is shit haha, eventually I got a black screen -- did I break the game? ![Screen Shot 2020-04-30 at 4.54.14 pm.png](///raw/a3d/11/z/33964.png)

BTW there was one more typing game made by @kythehuman that I've played this jam: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/all-caps-episode-1-the-incident-at-puppy-canyon

Thought you guys might be interested in checking it out :)

@avi The screen turning off is the game over state. You have to press the button on the computer tower to restart the game. Sorry if that isn't completely clear, maybe with more time I would have made the button glow or something. There was a bug where the restart wouldn't work on fullscreen for the web version which I just fixed. I'll be sure to try out that other typing game!
