Just in Time by Pietrek

[raw]
made by Pietrek for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

"Just in Time" is a short 2D platformer about a guy, who travels in time and suffers side effects of being in a time loop. Your goal is to get to the next button before the time runs out. It ain't much, but it's honest work. Hope you enjoy :)

The game is supposed to play music backwards (sometimes). Because of Unity bug this feature only works on Windows version, not on WebGL version. It's a shame, it's a cool effect :( If you have this possibility, download a Windows version for a better experience.

EPILEPSY WARNING! A game contains quickly changing colours.

Controls: A, D - walk, W - jump, E - press a button, R - rewind, Esc - go to main menu

I get a 404 for the itch.io web link - maybe it's just taking a minute though.

@theconfusedcyborg My bad, forgot to set it to public. It should work now.

I think the graphics could use some work. Maybe make the player automatically push buttons instead of pressing e that would improve playability. Otherwise good work!

Cool concept! Once I got it it was a blast to play. But jumping was kind of inconsistent. It felt like jumping while moving made you jump higher, but then you had to account for that and not bump into anything. Keep up the good work!

Just had to spam buttons to figure out 'E' was the interact button, because I just missed the menu screen. Fun one, will definitely take a look at the source code to figure out how to manipulate time like that!

Cool idea! Would have loved if you could partially rewind by holding r and there were some more puzzle aspects around the time rewinding idea.

@gironimo4 It's from Brackeys rewind video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqlHpPzS22U&list=LLSy96YSvT3AFn904zr0dKuQ&index=4540) and the music going back is just pitch in AudioSource set to -1.

Love the "prince of persia" mechanic of time reversal, much more polished than simply having him return to the beginning with not explaination.
I only realized after playing that there were controls in the menu. In the future, it's probably better to incorporate them into the game. I actually listed mine on the title screen. But your controls are good enough I could figure them out without looking it up, so that's also very good.

Nice idea with a really charming art! A liked it, I'd just have two small suggestions: I think it would be fair to auto-click the checkpoints, maybe..? Also, don't stop the player from moving forward for such a long time after the button since it kills the flow for me. :)

The rewind mechanic is great. Not being able to jump the right height got a little frustrating, but got past it anyway.

The graphics were kinda cute, probably the music helps. The first stages were so easy that i didnt get the mechanic or why i should press the buttons. But then it got hard and it hurt so much if i am 1mm away fromthe button and the time rewinds XD

With some graphical improvement this could turn out awesome, it's already a good game tho, I enjoyed it!

Whilst there are many submissions with the idea of a "time-loop", this one has a pretty cool effect when the time rewinds back, it could've been more smoother, but it still does the job. In terms of platforming, the jumping can get weird sometimes, I think the ground detection should've beeen reworked a bit. Other than that, the game is pretty good, and it matches the theme well with its story. Well done!

The ending just made me laugh out loud, I don't know if the quick cut back to the title screen was intentional but it reinforces the idea of the loop. The time-rewinding effect is really, really cool. What I like is that it takes a game like a normal platformer and makes it a little more focused and forgiving because you don't have to start over all the way at the beginning. I didn't think the game was too challenging, especially after I figured out you can sort of cheat and double bounce twice as high. Really enjoyed playing it!
