Sleep-Rolling Pangolin by Khyrgrim

[raw]
made by Khyrgrim for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

ezgif.com-video-to-gif.gif

Try to keep the sleep-rolling pangolin alive by placing different tiles that affect its movement in order to reach the finish tile. Select (left click) tile type on the left side of your screen, then place it (left click) or remove it (right click) on any existing tile (except for black one). All tiles effect and controls are available by clicking the settings button on the top right of the screen then on the info button.

This is an updated version of the game (better UI, more levels, reworked music). More updates to come ^^. The initial concept of this game was made in 72h by Daepso and Khyrgrim for Ludum Dare 46. You can download the original entry at this link : LINK.

To play the game, click on itch.io (HTML5) link to play it in the browser or download the corresponding zip file and extract it. Then, find and launch "LudumDare46". Any bug report or feedback are welcomed in the comments.

Thanks to Nytrouss and CZG for some level design. Special thanks to raphael.samakh (Pangolin drawing) and Kekours (Music).

There are 26 levels for now and 3 bonus big one.

I hope you'll enjoy the challenge and thank you for playing.

So many levels. But they are all so well designed. Many "aha" moments were had.

Wow, great level design. I idea how many levels there are since I've already been playing for 35 minutes and I'm only up to "Blinking". Very intuitive mechanics, I didn't need the instructions.

Awesome! Really polished little puzzle game. The controls are intuitive enough, took my a moment to find out, that right click removes the placed fields. Seeing the little thing roll and jump around the fields is really satisfying :) I'm not a fan of the genre in general, but I was entranced the whole time I played.

The Song was catchy as well. Really great composition.

I enjoyed this game quite a lot. Levels are really clever and well thought out. So far my favourite game on LD46.

The game looks great from the screenshot, but I am having trouble getting it to run on Mac OSX Catalina. I'm getting a "This app can't be opened" error, and I tried setting permissions properly etc (after some google-ing). Perhaps anyone here knows of a fix? I'll be back to try again!

Such a cool idea, I found this puzzle game to be addicting. Hardest part was figuring out exactly what each block did at first but once that happens, it's smooth sailing from there, this was wonderful and I would pay money to play this on steam if it had more content!

Very very clean game with excellent well-oiled mechanics. These types of puzzle games are my lifeblood and this is a great start to one! It's absolutely outstanding what you were able to accomplish given the short timespan. The sound and music work well together too. Nice job.

Thank you all for your comments, it is really encouraging as it's my first entry into a game Jam. I finally manage to build it in HTML5 WebGL format by changing the rendering pipeline (compatibility issues) ... Now it's possible to play it on browser on itch.io but with lower graphics quality (interface and shadows).

Well done on this entry! Great execution on a puzzle game!
One small thing that could help a lot would be hotkeys to select the various tiles.
Fantastic work!

This is amazing! The concept of speed is really fun. Also this game is introducing each new concept with easy levels so that players don't get lost, but not too simple that players get bored. The last level was challenging, but I managed to beat it. Also the music is relaxing and I like it. Great job!

Damn this game has all of it! Core mechanics, Graphics, Sounds, Music, UI, post-processing, etc. it's too perfect for a gamejam IMO. the camera movement is snappy which is great for accuracy, the tile placement is nicely done, btw every level you've designed is blowing my mind cuz I didn't even think about it, and also every level will slowly increase the difficulty, which is amazing for players who will get frustrated pretty easily. Also I see you are using the Unity shader for the sea, and the nice lighting as well. The URP has implemented very well. Overall it's excellent! I hope you develop it more in the future man.

This is amazing! I really enjoyed how the level design was amenable to all sorts of deductive reasoning, despite having so many possible choices at any given point in time (...the last level was awesome once things started clicking together - especially since it seemed like the solution might be unique, even though it looks so complex. I would definitely play through more). I don't really have a lot of suggestions for this - it's really nice as it is.
