Fatter by axeltherabbit

[raw]
made by axeltherabbit for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

It's my first game jam ever :D

Keep your stomach alive, don't starve, follow the forks to find the food, (don't eat too much), fart, avoid the malefic broccoli

WASD to move and SPACEBAR to fart.

fill your hunger bar, if it reaches zero or you eat too much you die,

The broccoli can consume your fat by touching you, don't touch them.

You are faster if you are slim, and slower if you are fat, you can fart to loose weight and increase your speed if you are too slow but be careful, you could consume too much weight

BTW: it's trashy

Very funny game ! I love the sound effects and I love when I have to fart to escape broccolis xD

Fun simple game! :)
I do think maybe you should change the start. You start with almost no fat and you need to wait for food to spawn in (and just be lucky it spawns near). Maybe consider that, overall fun game ;)

HA! Very similar vibes to that old skiing game ;) I ended up finding 3 burgers and dieing from obesity - serves me right for gorging!

Love the way you approached the concept. Really like that it's not just a fill meter but that the character changes depending on their food. Broccoli killed me!! Not sure about the pro-junkfood message - lol. Great work for a first game!

Enjoyed the game, felt like I was training zombies in Black Ops except I was farting not shooting. Two comments, one is the background made it very difficult to pick stuff out because it was so busy, so maybe a grass textur or single color would be better suited? And the other is that a simple shrink/grow of the fork based off your distance to it could make it far easier to have a strategy as I would sometimes go for food that seemed to be halfway across the map.

Good idea. If Remake graphics it will be very good game. And try to do somethink with balance. Very easy. Not bad for your first game jam work :)

Success! I died of obesity! 200 points!

I really liked the concept for this one. And mechanically, it makes for a fun mini-game. Also, it seemed to be balanced well between the finding food pickups and 'starving' that one could keep going for a really long while.

It would be cool to see some variety in enemies and maybe get some pickups that aren't directly related to food (a speed pickup or an 'slow-starve' pickup could help you with getting more enemy variety to balance back and forth)

Reminded me of SkiFree. I didn't like at the start where sometimes you would just spawn too far away from food and instantly die.

Well, that was an interesting concept. Press space to loose weight. :)

This is a great and fun game. Has a good Toejam and Earl vibe. The humor of the game, to me, feels like the music should be more fun, otherwise, not bad at all. I enjoyed it.

If we want videogames to be treated like a serious works of art, we need to have games that push the envelope, and move the medium in uncharted and sometimes uncomfortable territory. Games like Silent Hill 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Witcher 3 or Fatter.

Fatter is a game about inherently human experience - eating junk food and farting, while avoiding disgusting vegetables like broccoli. While at the first glance it might seem as "dumb" or "primitive" it is, in fact, an accurate depiction of what most of the humanity was doing during 2020's pandemic.

And let me tell you - Metal Gear Solid 2 was also misunderstood after its launch.

I love it.
