Loop Snatch!

Hi, João (Bear) speaking~... Here's our take on the theme "Stuck in a loop"!

Travel back in time and take what you are holding with you!

https://youtu.be/5Z3S9hawXao

(More screenshots bellow)

Description

We meet our main protagonist "Mcmann", stumbling into henchmen, ordered to retrieve the various treasures and riches, that, our main man accumulated and kept in his own bar, inherited from his old man. Your objective is to use your wits (and a very unique skill our protagonist holds) to snatch the treasure from behind/above the bar counter and run to the door, without getting shot by these uninvited guests that scouts our property!

You'll find the controls in the main menu, hopefully everything is as intuitive as we wanted it to be (see the Objectives/How to play section bellow before playing). Be sure to watch out for the enemy line of sight indicator (the eyes at the bottom of the screen).

After you've completed our 3 features levels, you can choose to meddle with our sandbox mode.

Unfortunatly, due to time constraints, WebGL wasn't possible, we didnt want to risk leaving behind a buggy non-functional mess, in our game's place. (Diogo (Cake): -"which probably still is a buggy, non-functional mess")

Hope you enjoyed our ludum darem submittion, please rate and leave feedback on the comment section on your way out if you had a good time and have the time to do so! ~:)

Have a good one~ João(Bear)

Objectives / How to play

Find the required item in each level and take it to the door. You cannot be seen by the enemy! If you are, try to turn back time using the scroll wheel on your mouse! Any item you are holding will travel back in time with you. (You can see the first level solution in the video above)

Tip: Behind the bar counter is a restricted area, the enemy will be alarmed and kill you, your only hope then is to turn back time!

Items locations in each level:

First Level

Bottle behind the bar counter

Second Level

Gold bars behind the small bar counter

ThirdLevel

Stack of money on top of the bar counter

I tried over and over again, but the bottle was stuck and I coudln't take it.. Oh, and please, in future games, try adding a pause menu and a way to exit the game

Adding that rewind mechanic can not have been easy, good job. I'm failing to see how it fits the theme of the jam, but that doesn't detract to the game.

**Thanks for the feedback!**

A menu was definitely something that was missing from the game, but wanting to deliver a _"playable"_ experience and me being the only programmer with no _code base (everything was done from scratch)_ we just didn't have time... _(in the bug fix version you can quit at any time by pressing ESC)_

As for the bottle... Yes, it is quite hard! this was done intentionally as we only have three levels and wanted to give a bit of a challenge... But our testing and replaying the game during development might have made us "too good" at picking things up.

We might do a revision of the game later on with _more levels_, an _easier pick up of the items_ and some _quality of life improvements_.

A tip if you still want to try and beat the game: _try to approach the item from the shortest path (in the first level try it from the left side, as you will have more time to try and pick it up)_. On the other levels you can pick up items at your own pace as the enemy can be killed.

@kotovnav **Thank you for the comment!**

Sorry again for this, as stated in the reply to **BakemonoMori**, us replaying the game made us "too good" at picking up items. In future revision we would make it alot easier! If you still want to try to beat game see the tips I gave on the reply mentioned. _(the first level is the only one where picking up the item is really hard)_

Oh, and the bottles, glasses and cigar trays are only there for you to play around with physics and demonstrate the time tarvelling mechanic: _throw them around, turn back time when they are mid air or unitl they are in your hands again._

@bit-assembly **Thanks!**

We hear you and we agree that the theme part was slightly _off_... We **really** didn't like the theme and tried to make the most out of it. Some "lore" was planned to try giving a better context to fit the theme, but in the end it really was a miss on our part...

Thank you for playing nonetheless!

For me game is quite good. It is fun, and concept for me is innovative. I'm enjoyed this game :)

Game has interesting design, but also is hardly connected to the theme, as you stated you didn't like the theme.
Other thing is as already stated above, missing menu. Other than that game could be interesting, rewinding time is fun concept, but also based on available content I think it took most of your time (hence lack of levels)

Neat concept, though I think the first level is a little off-base. The second and third level are more puzzle-y, but the first is mostly just running towards the bottle, grabbing it, and slamming the mouse wheel fast enough to survive. It would be nice if you could rewind time from the game over screen. Other than that, it's a neat concept (having to plan things in a sort of reverse order, so you can move back to a better position), and could make a neat game if expanded.

Also nice jojoke

@samdemaine Being the artist this brings me great joy! Thank you for giving our little project a go! Like many who participated in the Ludum Dare, me (Bear) and Diogo(Cake) have been giving every entry we come across, rating as honestly as we can! Good Luck on your submission!

@dome Hello and thank you for giving our submission a try! You've somewhat hit the nail on the wall, althought during our level designing we saw the first level as the mechanic rundown and after that it's 10 times more intuitive.

Cool game, it adapts really well to the "stuck in a loop" theme. I loved the time travel effect and the controls are very pleasant to use. I would like to see more levels for this game! Good luck ( or should I say pluck ;) )
