Please Just Leave by Noam Blei

[raw]
made by Noam Blei for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

The Narrator wants Boby to leave his place. Boby, on the other hand...

Use WASD to move, and SPACE to interact.

This game needs to be played with volume turned on (in order to listen to the narrator)

I would have loved to make this game longer, but I didn't calculate well the times (this is my first game and first time participating in a gamejam). Also I'm aware it has some bugs, I'm planning to fix them and add more features to the game after the jam ends!

I hope you have a good time playing it :D.

if you want to see more animations of the game (some correction or newones that will be added when the jam ends), you can go to -> https://ldjam.com/users/noam-blei/feed

door opens and i can control the player, but what should be happening next?

Pretty cool! I liked the script and the singing.
I think I found a few bugs:

-You can walk off screen to the left at the beginning before you're supposed to, and after the camera pans left you can walk off screen to the right.
-I entered the door on the far left before the narrator finished a sentence and two voice lines overlapped.

This was a fun experience. A few little hitches and hiccups in the audio or animation, but nothing that really hurt the game for me. Thank you for the splash of humor!

This is neat idea fo the game. I think a lot of the jokes are pretty good. I wish you could do more things to interact with the narrator, but still its very intersting

Oh my gosh if this game doesn't win the humor section I will be very disappointed in my fellow gamers! Also I agree with @juansabadoperon, I was able to walk off to the left at the beginning and I don't think I was supposed to.

I've been Rickrolled!! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
I liked it! In my humble opinion, it's very important in game jams to throw out the ideas you can't implement on time and cobble together a complete experience out of what's left by the deadline. You did that perfectly, especially for your first jam. Good job!

This game took a very different approach from other games and I liked that. The narrator is hilarious to listen to! From all of the games I've played in the jam, this deserves the top spot for humor. It's a great experience that's unique from the other games. Very well done for your first jam!

This game wins the simplicity to enjoyment ratio contest. Even though the "only" thing you do in it was walk through a door, I played to the end and would have gladly played a few more "rounds". I really liked when the door broke and then we got to see a new door, it drew me back in just as I was about to quit because thought I had seen the whole game.

Really like how they open the door, it has a lot of character in the animation, definitely has the look of someone walking into somewhere and feeling awkward - great sound effect on it too.

Then when the narrator started talking and telling me what to do I knew I was in for a good time. A well realised concept, making a little go a long way, which is what good game design (and jam technique) is about! Thanks!

@neithr Hahahaha yeah! I loved to make these scripts. I have like 3 more google doc pages of narration that couldn't get to fit yet (for time reasons), buuut I will come with more dialogue after the Jam ends :D

@tero-pulkkinen you should keep entering into the doors! I know, it might sound boring... but give it a shot 😉, the narration and humor stuff makes it (at least in my and some users opinion as well) enjoyable :). Anyways, I'm alredy working in more interactuable things for the game

This game was fun, reminds me a bit of "The Beginners Guide". It's nice to see something different every once in a while. At one point, the narrator was talking over himself, maybe a bug? I had fun either way :)

Really liked this one.
There was bug though where if you tried to leave in rapid succession the voice tracks overlapped and the game finishes before the voice tracks are finished. But aside from that very cool idea and good implementation.
Keep it up!

@thesedatedprince @tarfield indeed it's inspired in that kind of game with that kind of narrator, such as Stanley Parable and The Begginers Guide. Yes, the overlaping audio is a bug, I will correct it on this days. Also I'm working on more interactuable stuff for a post-jam version!

It's really rare to see a game with a full on voice over narrator, really like your approach! I like the fact you've even added the hints in the game :). Although I'd change the door's SFX or may be add some more door SFXs since it's literally the only thing that you can interact with throughout the game

Nice one!

This is a nice use of the game medium and the theme to tell an absurd story.
I found that the timer was a very good idea to even more question what you are still doing here as a player.

I can't say I had fun but this was a really cool idea, great job 💕

The first thing I did was going to the credit and man those are maybe the more chaotic credits I've ever read lol. Seen after that this is a humor game, I'm not sure it was a mistake or intended lol
Also, the first camera being so close creeped me out, combined with the walk sound.

It's nice that you give a hint to avoid someone get stuck, but it may appear a bit after, I didn't even have the time to "explore". You could also just add something extra that makes me think to go to the left.

It was also fun that in the end I could still move behind the wall and hearing the footstep, it was like the red thing was already there and not gone, trolling him even more!

Fun game =) It lasted long enough for me, more would have probably been too much!
🎤 Noam Blei
11. Oct 2020 · 20:16 UTC
@drjexter   , Yep indeed the timer doesn't have much of a point here. My original idea was to add a timer since I wanted to add more puzzles and stuff to interact so the players could compare how much it took to them to actually leave. It will have more sense in a post-jam version with more stuff to do :). Anyways I think it is a cool touch, so I decided to keep it anyways
