Cotton Candy Dream by LelulaGames
Fairies and magical shards may seem beatiful and surean, but there's danger just beyond the edge of the world. And a portal that only takes you right back to where you began.
W, A, S, D to move. R to restart. Loop through the portal again and again to pick up all the crystals.
My first game jam. Hope you enjoy it.
All assets created by Crissy Moss in Unity.
Change Log: Changed AI for fairies so they stop falling out of world. Moved trees so they aren't floating. Adjusted some landscape so the player stops falling out of the world. Added collision boxes to portal so player does not fly through it. Changed crystal pick ups so they are actually floating instead of just sitting in the air. Removed some of the clutter to help performance.

- good start of a game-play loop
- some sort of indicator of how many pickups or whatever is needed to progress would be helpful.
- would really benefit from some appropriate music
- physics probably needs to be set to continuous on the ball, as if you get going fast enough you can teleport through stuff.
The graphics were also very nice!
Next time I think you should try experimenting with unity's material and shader systems to get some even more creative visuals, you can do some pretty exciting stuff just by playing around and breaking things!
Very much enjoyed speeding up and flying through the course trying to dodge trees at the last second. The ball is a challenge to control though.
I managed to build up some luducris speed, combined with the looping was a lot of fun, weaving in and out of the trees. Awesome Job!
But it has too much lag, and the movement was not fluid/dynamic as I would have expected.
I also was really disappointed that failure (falling) means you have to collect all again. And the level is also too long, making it hard to reach the end.
This two things combined made the mechanic of "loop through the level to get all the orbs" not working: one error and you have to start again, and also the level is so long that it seems a chore to collect them all.
The idea is cute and it is still an accomplishment to do a game in 72 hours, so keep going!
Edit:
As other have said, the only part where I had fun was in trying to reach the end going full speed to make it fast, avoiding to fall down or hit the tree. There is something they call "follow the fun" that means that when you create a game sometimes you see that what makes it fun is not what you wanted (collect the balls) and it could be a good idea to follow what make it fun (for me, going full speed to the end!) and focus the game on that.
Edit... Now that I know I can update things, I did some basic updates.
All in all a nice stimuli, would benefit from a wide screen I think. As picking up things wasn't giving rewards, best fun after a while was running through a portal at high speed and then repeating with increased acceleration.
I didn't submit in time for LD, if you feel like giving my game a try the link is in my profile text.
I think you may find that we had a lot of fun with this one, but perhaps not for the reasons you intended. Personally, we found the ability to accumulate speed and momentum to be a blast, while picking up all of the individual tokens hampered our wacky antics (especially when the tokens reset after you die). Hopefully our tomfoolery is useful to you, and congrats on your first jam!!
