Set in Stone by Sn4pi

Set in Stone is a Roguelite without perma-death. Death sends you back to the start of the game with all of your items, so technically, you can't lose.

The game features a couple of enemy types, distinct gameplay changing items and a boss.

RATING NOTICE

About half of the sounds used were constructed with samples from other people, while all of the music and the rest of the sounds were made from scratch. We ask you to rate Audio based on the music alone. In my opinion Sound and Music need a clear split for this exact purpose.

Good game, controls well apart from the camera which lags behind were you are making it hard to shoot enemies which are offscreen/far away, and the character with the speed boost seemed a bit too fast making it hard to control. everything else was good, especially the soundtrack which fit really well.

Pretty nice. It is hard to deal with robots at first, but then with extra ability that I've picked up, robots died fast. Also, I thought that sandglasses need to shut down, and that why I died a lot lol. Anyway, good job!

wow very impressed with what you got done in the time limit. Multiple enemies with diff attacks and some snazzy pixel art. I like the reflections and general vibe of the game. Great job!

I played it and I can say that the core mechanic is working fine. Except the fact that it's very small amount of levels even for this small game :) Don't left levels to the very end in the next time and the result will be even better :)

I like the overall mood of the world you built (reflections + music + backgrounds).

I think this game would benefit from camera shakes to really give those bullets some satisfaction. Additionally having some indication for how many bullets you have before a reload would be useful as well as having HP visible for enemies, my opinions though.

I like that you guys put in the effort to make and put in a boss, shows you guys were dedicated to having some form of progression

@overlook-studios Camera shake among other things really would have been some no-brainer polish; It's a shame our last day got cut really short or we could have improved on a lot.

We actually decided to not use an ammo bar hoping that it would make you count your shots, but that's probably more a bother than fun.
Thanks for the feedback!

Impressive work!

Like Overlook-Studios said, the game would benefit in adding some camera shake (dying, shooting).

Seriously overall I can see that a lot of work was put into this! Types of enemies + a boss, powerups, music, visuals.

Good job to the team!

Really slick game, looks gorgeous and plays smooth. I feel like maybe the levels should have been laid out more horizontally? I found myself shooting off screen a lot.

Good job!

Pretty good for a jam game, also really thematic which I personally like. Animations were a nice addition which often gets overlooked/pushed to wishlist, and some enemies were interesting by design. Not sure if I ever encountered the boss, maybe should have died more times.

Thanks for the review! You will be able to meet the boss after completing around 10 stages, so dying is not necessary for fighting the boss

The effort put into this really shows. The graphics are pretty good including the art direction. The characters and animations are superb! Game play wise, it works but I had some issues with input responsiveness. Shooting felt weird, sometimes it didn't work to shoot (aside from when I had to reload) Hit feedback could be a little snappier, it lacks some impact to really be satisfying for the player (particle effects, push force on enemy hits, a nice squishy sound effect maybe?)

I played it for quite some time and it over stood it's welcome pretty fast since the levels just recycle themselves. I had no idea when the last boss would show up, but it didn't for me.

All in all a well enough prototype! A little rough around some of the edges but still a good effort! Keep it up

I enjoyed the shooting, but I had some issues. First, the camera could follow a bit quicker, as I had to get sometimes too close to see what was in front of me. Second, I felt the 'rewards' for restarting the loops were a bit cheap, like a game going suddenly easier on you because you suck. Would probably feel better to earn them after each loop, so you know if you beat loop1 you get X, then loop 2 Y, etc. A bit more feedback on what these items do would be nice as well (I understand in such little time is hard to do many things, just suggestions on how to improve the game further :stuck_out_tongue: )

I think having the camera follow the mouse cursor instead of lagging behind the player could be a great change but I understand that this is a jam game and one can often overlook certain things, happens to the best of us! Anyway a pretty good game, I like the graphics and I like the stuck in a loop concept where you get stronger from each death. Good job!

Really dig the aesthetic on this one. The reflections are a really nice touch and the movement is pretty responsive. The random powerup on death is also great for replayability. The weakest aspect imo is the audio since there's no music and the sounds get the job done but aren't super exciting or anything. Just adding some music and some cooler SFX would really enhance the mood. As @patrickrmc mentioned, it would probably be a good idea to make the camera a bit more quick to interpolate (perhaps even "look" ahead in the direction of the cursor?) but the smoothness is nice. Also good job on managing to get a boss fight in in time. Well done.

@guitarbro thanks for the kind review! It worries me a bit that you coudln't hear any music, which version have you played? I'll take a look into it.

Oh dang there was music? I used the web version (must have been something weird that happened). Sorry, please disregard that particular feedback in that case.

@guitarbro Too bad you couldn't hear the music!
If you're still up to hearing it outside the game here's the two links!

Satisfying game! Nice visuals, the reflection was a nice touch. Controls felt great.

Would have love a UI for the bullets or the ability to reload mid magazine.

It is mind boggling that you guys had time to create different enemies, a boss and multiple levels.

Overall great job!

Gorgeous game overall!
The sound, art, enemy design, and overall vibe were great. I loved how it went with the theme and how different enemies had different attacks. Those clock bats were super annoying at the start. I just wish that I wouldn't end up in the same room as the one I just completed. Also only obtaining new items (which were each very distinct and fun to use) was only possible whenever I died. Maybe the reward can be obtained when you clear a room instead. Overall great game and very polished, loved it!

great looking game from the background to the enemies and the power-ups all of those are amazing looking pixel arts.

the game itself is very fun and satisfying to play, but as the other people mentioned here the game missing some camera shakes and UI that indicates the current status for the bullets and reloading and that stuff other than that the game is wonderful.
