Ragtime Loop by doomshmuck

[raw]
made by doomshmuck for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Test your rhthymic chops as you stomp to the beat of a demented looping rendition of Scott Joplin's "Maple Leaf Rag". Can you take the dangers in stride? Can you tickle those keys just right to make your escape? Will you make it to the Exit and escape this maddening loop, and for the love of god, stop that terrible terrible music.

We shall see... we shall see...

Games like the Crypt of the Necrodancer, Spelunky, and Ragtime Loop, have now been mentioned in the same sentence.

Dave got lazy so he just did the terrible terrible music, some sound stupid effects, as well as writing this pretty remarkable description. He also spelled rhytmic correctly earlier.

Matt did a lot of good coding and art and other cool stuff this go around. (yay Matt!)

Hope you find it entertain-er-ing! (sorry I need help)

Was there only one level, was that the loop? I was very confused. I liked the premise of musical platformer.

The mechanics are all well implemented but not really utilized by the level design. The music was interestingly bizarre and helped add to the rather humorous aesthetic. The level itself is much too short.

@dk5000p Yes, there was just the one level... Unfortunately due to running out of time and energy, that was all I could muster.

@oliver-richmeier Yeah, I guess one thing I need to work on going forward is level design... I usually do arcade type games that don't really have levels...

Nice idea, as you said, mixing platforming with rythmic play. With more time you could really improve this, especially the controls (I found them a little bit unresponsive) and obviously improve the music (as said on the humorous description) and graphics. Good job!

Attempting to create a game with such a daunting premise in such a short time is commendable. I wish there was more to do, and that some of the bugs were ironed out, but good work overall.

Everything i was doing felt like breaking the game and/or was bugged and it feels awkward. For me game is completly not finished from musical platformer which i didn't found to well bugs. Idea is good, i had some moments that i enjoyed, work on the game after the jam, it can be good : )

Timing based combat and movement is well implemented overall. Sometimes it felt a bit unresponsive but that might just have been me. I think it's a good entry. With a bit more time after the Jam this could become a great game.

That's a very well made game, I love how everything is explained to you in tutorial and the game is pretty addictive. I could move to this tune all day
I saw some people said control is unresponsive, aren't you supposed to move on beat? or the control's actually unresponsive? :D

I like the silly music! And the rhythm gameplay is fun.

The timing felt a bit wonky at times and I didn't quite know when I successfully hit an enemy or not.
