Untitled Caterpillar Game by karln

[raw]
made by karln for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Walk with A/D, jump with Space, face a box and hold Left Shift to grab it.

If you get trapped somehow you can press R to reset to the last checkpoint.

Not very polished this time unfortunately, but I'm just glad to have finally made a playable platformer. I always have trouble with platformer physics; there are still a lot of glitches in the final version, but hopefully in the end I got rid of all (most?) of the game-breaking ones.

EDIT: I remembered after publishing that OnFixedUpdate() exists, that probably would have fixed most of it. I'm leaving the published game as-is though.

I really loved the concept and the little wormy dude was definitely worth saving! One issue was i kept getting stuck in walls but man it was solid fun apart from that!

That was fun! I'm always amazed by people who can come up with all these creative puzzles under game jam conditions.

Nice work! What I liked about this one were that the jump physics felt just about right, and the ways you interacted with the world were unexpected (in a good way) to me, like leading the firey guy to the thread wall by shoving boxes around. I liked how the boxes were buoyant in water. I'm glad touching them also didn't hurt me, since I was worried about that lol

I really liked the gameplay concept and even if you didnt make the audio the ones you did pick were very fitting and worked well!
I thought the graphics were okay, the player looks good and the caterpillar is cute i like them the walls couldve used some kind definition more than just the white boxes but it also does kind of just work.

Good game :)

I like the concept, but it seems to defy logic. You are capable of moving big boxes and can touch the caterpillar without harming yourself, but you can't pick it up instead? :D Anyway I like the little puzzles you made

A clever platformer for the short time available, nicely done.

good entry! I think you did a great job in making interconnected levels like reusing that flame thingy for the next puzzle piece, graphics could be improved but did the job perfectly

Nice level design and cute graphics! I found the jumping mechanics a little odd (something about momentum), but I imagine that's a pain to polish in a weekend!

Although the graphics/audio are pretty simplistic, the concept is interesting and some of the puzzles are really, really well designed. This game is easy to get into, simple enough to enjoy fully, and unique enough to bring real entertainment value to the table - two big thumbs up from me.

Good game, good levels, you're perfectly in the theme, nice job.

The fact that you can jump higher by pressing space bar longer is not that common, it took me 2 minutes to figure it out. May be you should introduce us this mechanic

@snowirbis ohh yeah, that's something I'm so used to from other games that I forgot it might not be obvious. Okay my next platformer will have TWO rocks to jump over in the starting zone, a little one and then a great big one
