Fuel by Acdia

[raw]
made by Acdia for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This game is about you running into an issue: Your friend managed to upload his brain onto a computer. The problem is that the computer has no hard drive, so it needs a constant power supply to beware your friend from getting deleted. You burn FUEL in order to power the computer and keep your friend alive. How to play: -WASD for movement - no jumping -right click on a tile to open its options. You can destruct the current building to get more space or get wood from trees or you can build machines. At the bottom you see which ressources are still avaliable. -left click to pick up items or throw them down -farmed ressources have a value (shown at bottom right when carrying). You can sell the items by dropping them down the platform or burn them in the furnace. -In the screenshots you can find a scheme for all the ressources and machines

Since I got now some feedback (from Ludum Dare but also from other persons) to my game I started updating it. You can still find the origanal version at the download page. The updated one is clearly recognizable by the designation. If you want to rate the game, please use the old version.

Update notes:

-Warning if the furnace runs low on fuel -Some Post Processing -left control + left click to throw items further -Highscore bug fixed -Random Message bug fixed -Fixes of some spelling mistakes

I like the idea, but I got a little confused as to how you play this game. However, again, great concept!

Yes, it takes some time to get into it and there was no time for a proper tutorial.

Lovely Idea, took me a little to understand how things work but once I got the hang of it, It goes well...
For the graphics I love the simplicity of the game design a Little bit of polish and voila~
I think it also needed a little bit of audio in it, but what can we say T i m e C r u n c h ! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Great job man and keep up the good work

This is fun! I love the concept but it needs a bit of polish.
I would love to see an indicator of how much fuel is left.
Great idea, looking forward to this one!

Thx @crumblybread in the updated version there is a indicator for the last piece of fuel burning. Or do you think an indicator for all the fuel left in the furnace would be better? I didn't program this in, because theoreticly you can look in the input thing of the furnace. I don't know which option is better.

Hi, I didn't quite get how to earn money, I tried dropping 3 logs in one tile and it didn't seem to change anything, can you please tell me how? :)

@gelgavish Just drop the items from the edge of a tile into the void and they should be selled in some seconds.

Hey,’ it’s me again! :) I played the game for real now and my high score is 194 (is that good?). I really like the idea of the game (the story too). The graphics are really nice. I think there are only two things you need to improve in your game:

- There is no way to tell how much energy is left on the computer, so maybe add an energy bar.
- Instead of throwing items off the platform, just add a sell basket next to the fuel one, it will save a lot of time

Overall, it’s a really fun game, good job! :)

@gelgavish Thanks for your feedback. Depending on which version of the game you playied the score can be good or let's say almost good :) . However your first suggestion is somehow included in the updated version (You see how many seconds you have left, when the last piece of fuel started burning). I'm not sure if that's fine or if some UI for all the fuel would be better... Anyway I'll think about the second idea.

You had a lot of great parts I just wasn't sure how they all fit together.

Judging from the screenshots, the game looks really well made - I like the wood mesh especially. Sadly, I'm running a 4k screen, which seems to create some issues. Nonetheless, your screenshots look cool :)

No! I had that problem earlier and still don't know how to fix it... Seems like it doesn't clear the background after a frame. If anyone has any idea how to fix it, plaesy tell me.

@tyfus only thing that could cause the issue and would give you an an option to still try the game, would be if you downloaded the game several days ago. For about one day there was a version online with this bug. But I guess it's not very likely that you have this version :(

Good game!!!
I found it difficult because there is not much feedback for the player

@plepletier Thx. Could you tell me where exactly more feedback is needed? I'll try to implement it.

@sujoybyte Not only you... I know it's takes some time to figure out hw everything works. A tutorial would help, but I've never done one before...

I think a well described textual tutorial like a "how to" would be nice and one more thing it crashes a lot while play at start if my try to resize it or so best in Unity set it not to resize @acdia
