Zombie Defence by WilloXs

[raw]
made by WilloXs for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This game is dedicated to the features thet were left behind in it's production.

In this poorly balanced card-based tower-defence game you defend the Ancient Tree home of all wildlife and soul of the forest against hordes of undead enemies. I'm honestly quite pleased with the pathfinding implemented (though it took the whole weekend).

We were also inspired by the theme "tower-offense" which sadly didn't make it into the final round.

Nice game! It reminds me of Bubble Tanks Tower Defense, which is an old flash game that has the same system of free placement of buildings with pathfinding. I like how the game looks and feels but as you pointed out it may be held back by being unbalanced. I reached a point where the enemy could never reach me because I had so many buildings, and I could never reach the enemy base because there were so many enemies. I also love the look and creativity of all the buildings and animals :)

It is poorly balanced  - too easy. But I had lots of fun playing it anyway! Music is so greatly made that it's still in my head. Graphics are quite nice as well, except for the card effect font choice (the hollow text is poorly readable on the graphic). And my favorite building is the Holy Mole. I do bow before his holiness!

Really nice jamming!

Incidentally, we also made a game about defending a tree for this jam

Pretty fun game and game idea! I like the concept of a TD war / tug of war game. Not sure I've seen anything quite like that before.

I didn't find it difficult to stay alive, but I couldn't figure out a way to actually win. Even after saving up 40 mana to send a full wave of bears and elephants, they still all died before getting to the enemy base. Maybe I'm missing something.

I'm impressed by the amount of cards you were able to put in, and I agree that the pathfinding, if built from the ground up, is impressive for a weekend!

Also, it's funny that we both decided to go with cards as the way to interact with our game.

Thanks!

Did I learn what the numbers mean? No. Was I able to break into the giant undead fortress? No, and I don't see how that's possible. Did I have fun playing with bees and forest creatures? Yes! Thanks for making this game and teaching me about tubaphants.

A nice game idea, needs a bit of balancing, pacing and explanation, or a tutorial of sort for people to get into it faster, but overall a nice gameplay. Graphics wise I'd go for less of strong colors like that, those get to the eyes a bit, but still prett good. Hopefully you'll develop it further as it's a good start!

Thanks to a all for the feedback and the necessary 20 votes.

We knew from the start that it was poorly balanced but were to exhausted to change it. I really think the general game idea has some potential and think i will rework it in a game engine with another setting/theme.

I LOVE the concept ! The game is quite challenging actually ! I tried to rush building my base toward them but haha, as you can see here, I kinda lost control of the enemy progression :P But thats what make the game even better :) Thank you for the entry !
