In the year 2020, the blocks are taking over.

Retire them (with 'help' from assistant/antagonist, Brick Deckard). Deckard moves through the board destroying blocks and sometimes stealing from the bottom and putting it into the next block, keeping you stuck in a loop.

Pretty cool tetris game with a fun retro theme.

Wow this is a really cool game and I'm impressed with your use of LibGDX. I could be wrong but I suspect some of the devs grew up in the 80s and early 90s based not only on the obvious homage to the 80s via the theme but also the style of the text screens including the bouncing text and stuff which reminds me of games on the Amiga :) I actually loved your description of homage vs clone in the game and feel like the term clone is used dismissively far too often. This is a really cool game and great work for the jam!

My only feedback would be that I'm super used to the up arrow being rotate that I can't not accidentally hit it but in this game it drops the piece. If it had a configuration for that I think it would be excellent and I think a lot of other people who are used to that control scheme would agree.

Fantastic work! You've got me wanting to look into LibGDX more than I already did.

P.S. Was it easier or harder than you thought it would be?

Update: For anyone running the HTML5 version on Mac: it works perfectly in Chrome but the audio doesnt play in Safari for some reason.

@fabdynamic Thanks! We have been using LibGDX for years now, so we have worked through a lot of the growing pains. You can see our other LD games here https://lando.systems/#games_section We even have an arcade cabinet in town that is running a libgdx game we wrote, so it can really do anything you want it to.

Wow, atmospheric Tetris clone. Loved the cyberpunk version of the song :)
The ship flying around causing chaos kept things interesting, and I like that it has a scoreboard. All around solid game!

Good fun, and an interesting twist on tetris. Cant rely on tetrises for high scores while Deckard is flying about removing blocks!

A great game, but I've gotta say, not the tetris take for me. I feel like predictability is core to what Tetris is. I feel like with this game, there's situations where I can't plan my way out, and just get totally trashed by RNG.

@nardandas Thanks for the comment! For what its worth, there's a settings menu where the random interference can be turned off. Click the little cog in the top left corner and turn 'Brick Deckard' to off and its normal Tetris. Thanks again for playing!

@landosystems Oh hey, thanks. I might give it one more play just as normal tetris rules!

Great Work
The spaceship kept ruining my stack lol

I played this way longer than I would usually play a Tetris game, partially because Brick Deckard sometimes fixed my dumb mistakes, and partially because I couldn't stop laughing! This game's humor was so good and watching Brick Deckard mess with the blocks makes me smile. In all seriousness, Brick Deckard adds a lot to the gameplay and is really well implemented. Well done!

This was great! The augmented tetris gameplay was pretty fun, and I really like your remix of the original tetris theme.

This game reminds me of something... Like I game I played way back when... :D No seriously, a really cool tetris clone with some frustratingly good mechanics. The sound effects and music really complimented the aestetic. Really well done!

Not at all like Tetris. I could have played for ages and it was a nice nostalgia hit

Not the most original game ever but it has amazing visuals and audio. The amount of juice is incredible too! It just feels GOOD.

Fantastic visuals and audio, and thrilling gameplay. Not super original (obviously) but it was definitely an enjoyable time. Even managed to grab myself a somewhat respectable position on the leaderboard

Nice theme for Tetris. I had to turn off the rng because it was a bit annoying, or if you keep it there, maybe make it more rewarding if you overcome it. Not much more to comment on gameplay as it's basically tetris, but the humour, the style and the music were quite top. Very nice!

It is totally unexpected to see Tetris in cyberpunk setting :)

Nice music and visuals. Controls can be improved - sometimes they feel sluggish. Maybe some additional feedback is needed to make it feel just right as on old arcades and consoles.

Nice game! I like the sabotaging enemy, music and story. Although it doesn't fit too well with the theme. Very polished tho!

The blade runner theming is spot on, but I think my favourite element of this is the altered version of Korobeiniki you have playing - it took me a few seconds to realise what it was and it made me very happy. Very nice game, I like the metacommentary at the start, and finding time for a global leaderboard in a game jam is no mean feat! Well done, and good luck in future!

Very nice tetris remix. I loved the design and the remixed music. I don't see the game fitting into the theme but I enjoyed playing it (this 'some blocks disappear' mechanics really add some fun strategy and planning to come back from it). Bonus points for the leaderboard

Interesting additional mechanics added. I had some trouble with the controls at the start (my fault) and totally botched it up, still had a good time though!

Well done

I mean, it's synthwave Tetris, I literally can't not love it. The whole game was really well put together, but the sound effects and music stood out to me as way more complex than one person should've been able to do in three days. Extremely impressive

Unbelievably polished game. Its very fun because, well, it is Tetris. Not big points on innovation. The graphics and audio were professional level.

I mean it's a lot of work and it works well in 72h only - but it's a tetris-clone and the buttons screen I didn't get any of this

I don't know if I ever got stuck in a loop, but still enjoyed playing this new take on tetris and the aesthetic was a nice switch up too.

I liked the graphics, sound, and atmosphere and tetris is always fun, but I think the controls made it hard to enjoy.

I don't know if it was just the html5 version but the controls felt unresponsive and I made a lot of mistakes because of it. Also, I dont know if this was an intentional change or just a consequence of the extra pieces but in my second playthrough it felt like I could never get an I-block to appear which, for a tetris normie like myself, made the playthrough extremely unsatisfying and killed the momentum.

Also, the delay for placing a block after it hits the bottom was too short and I couldn't move them or do rotations in time.

Very polished and spot on with the Blade Runner aesthetic, though I would have liked to see some more variation from the Tetris mechanics. Especially love the music and the opening text crawl. :)
