See how long you can survive in this flower placing game. Each flower has a different ability but the name of the game is to protect the green seedlings. If they all die then it is GAME OVER. The seedlings also produce seeds at the end of each wave so plant more seedlings to seed more plants. The lava comes in waves where you can see the cracks before the volcano erupts so use that time strategically to plant defenses. If lava touches a plant it does insane damage!! Windmill flowers blow any lava that lands on them in the direction they are facing, tough carrots can take a buttload of damage and mistletoes explode into an icy blizzard when they die. Use these flowers to protect the sleepy seedlings that die instantly when touched by the lava. Happy planting!

The music doesn't seem to fit very well with the theme. I had trouble figuring out the point of the game

Too bad the sounds are taken from undertale (or might be some other game).

At first, I wasn't entirely sure the how to best approach surviving. But over the course of exploring the different plant options, I came to understand the depth of potential strategy in the game haha! I still don't know what's best! Made it to round 15 by first spreading seed boys all over the screen, and then trying to make little seed bunkers with carrot and flower guys in the corners. I feel like the strategy could be made better somehow by utilizing the blizzard guy!

I loved it! I only wish there had been further explanations for what each flower does as it took a while to understand how they and the lava worked.

Especially loved the sound recordings haha! <3

Also great job with the variance in how the lava works over time! Made it necessary to switch strategies of the course of the game.

I'm sorry i was just confused about this was meant to work i place down some flowers and random lava may or may not spawn and kill them? Shame because the art was cute and i liked the set up of the story and I have the feeling there is an interesting game there if i could figure it out.

Sound effects were the best part - they were hilarious.

The game took awhile to learn and once learned took played slow. I think if you increased the game speed a little it would be more fun and if you included some sort of in game tutorial it would have been helpful.

This is one of the most innovative games I've played. Awesome work!

Ba bada ba!

@rkhadder thanks for the feedback! If we had more time we would have definitely liked to add a tutorial (and if this quarantine goes on much longer maybe we will just for fun). We are so glad you enjoyed our first ludemdare game!

Interesting concept and nice style. I feel the gameplay could do with less RNG, like you get some idea where lava appears or that some lava stays and then grows each round. Well, somehow that there is more strategy to it.

Took me a minute to understand how it worked but had surprising depth once I did! The sounds made me laugh out loud 😂 Very cool idea!

You have my eternal respect for making such a playable game in pygame, of all things. I think the pixel art is wonderful and the voices are hilarious. My only trouble is that I didn't really understand how I was supposed to be strategic about my placement, partly because I wasn't totally clear on the actual effects of each plant. I think a little more feedback to the player might be helpful, like an effect every time a plant performs its particular action, or a number popping up each time more seeds are produced. It's still a very impressive thing though, and I found the story aspect strangely compelling. Thanks!

I haven't seen a good game made with pygame until now (no disrespect to pygame). This game is soo damn fun and you managed to explain everything so clearly, which is important for such a game. Congrats on the 20+ ratings too.

The art and sound effects were awesome! The gameplay had some nice strategy once I got into it, but my first run it took me a while to figure things out. It would have been nice to start with a kind of tutorial where you introduce each plant type one at a time and demonstrate how it can be useful for some specific situation, just to help with the learning curve. Overall though this was a lot of fun, nice work!

Good use of the theme and great sounds effects. I feel if you guys had a bit more time to fit in a tutorial, that would of made the experience a little less frustrating at the start. This was fun to play around with, good job for your first ludum jam :)
