Two small nitpicks:
- Knowing there will likely be several characters on the screen at once at any given time, I would have either toned the copies' sounds down or changed the characters' sounds altogether to something that would be a bit less obtrusive when played so frequently.
- My machine is getting pretty old now, but it probably still shouldn't be running a 2D web game at a low framerate (also making the game slightly unresponsive). Maybe you have some heavy calculation done in the update loop that you could be doing less frequently, or updating something that doesn't need to be such as inactive copies of the player?
Other than that, I enjoyed your game - good job making something that polished during a jam :)
Anyway, really nice graphics and cute animation. The audio was cute too but maybe make it quieter for things happening further away since the cannon firing all the time did get a little distracting. Nice mood created with the lighting as well and just an overall great atmosphere!
As a couple of improvements, you could put a little "E" symbol or intruction for the first button as it is quite small and I didn't notice it for a while as I wasn't looking for it. That first door had me stumped! The other thing would be to just poligh off that jump mechanism that doesn't quite work up against a block like people have said already.
Really awesome game though! Well done!
One small gripe that I had was that the first spikes were very hard to see against the gray background of the house - I died several times to those spikes without ever seeing them, and it made me assume that I didn't understand something about how the looping mechanism worked ("Do I die whenever all of my previous lives are dead?"). Once I saw the spikes and knew to avoid them, there were no other areas where I got stuck - The difficulty curve was not too steep or too shallow; I never felt completely lost, but still had to pay attention as I beat each puzzle :)
Overall, I had fun with the game! Good job!
