Healer of Elric by FancyReckless

[raw]
made by FancyReckless for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Healer of Elric is something you would get if you mix up JRPG, Iddle game and add chaotic amounts of spells that you must use to keep Elric alive.

Screen3.png Elric will fight monsters, you aid him by healing and buffing him!

Screen2.png More spells than I could fit in the shop screen!

Developer Note: I tried something different this jam, focused on content and made a scope I wasn't sure I can manage. Fortunately I did manage to finish the game. The thing I did not polish is game balance, but I made sure that at least few first levels can be beaten easily just by strategically using few key spells. Hope you like it!

PS. I made resolution for phones, but at the end I resized it and it turned out to work just fine. Fingers crossed!

Update

I had a bug, where animation speeds of most units were incorrect. This caused boar to not attack. Fixed that and notifying here as per the Jam rules.

I loved the art and music in this game. Its really nice. Can get abit repetitive after awhile though and I would've loved to be able to interact or fight in some way (other than providing the 'boosts').

Nice concept. It'd be helpful to see which free items the game gives you in the next level. Also, I love the music

I really like the graphics. Cute Pixel Art. At first I was a bit overwhelmed with the possibilitys, but after a while I got the hang of it. Cute little Game, keep up the work

@zeppelingames then "book of fireballs" and summon spells is for you ;)

@anthony-pengelly yeah, sorry. I knew this could happen, but I added it in the last moment, because I felt last 5th level needs some help. Hope at least it gave you some emotions :D

Thanks for all the feedback so far everyone, appreciate it!

This is very courageous to try to make an RPG in a game jam, well done.

Cool concept, it would make a great mobile game to kill some time on the commutes. I'd wish some more stuff would happen in the fight (maybe get loot from enemies you kill ?) because as it stands there can be a long time between running out of consumables and actually losing the game.

This game is a lot of fun, and I played it for a good while! The multiple abilities you uncover throughout the game keep it interesting, and there's a lot of strategy when deciding which ones to use and when.
I think it would have been helpful to have a mouse tooltip appear when you hover over a spell or item instead of having to hold down the left click.
Really fun entry!

Nice take on the idle genre! I think you could've done without the fireballs to stay completely in the support realm. The most challenging task was remembering what all the items do and finding enough space in my inventory to put them all.

This was a lot of content for a Jam game, great job with even thinking up all the different potions/spells etc.

One minor bug I had was a big green box hovering over the UI, than and I could fireball myself!

The music and the art were pretty cool too, though I'd say, go all in on the pixel look, and use it for the text and buttons too, the grey squares etc take away some of the charm in the hand draw pixelly dudes.
