Runner 2049 by inact1v1ty

[raw]
made by inact1v1ty for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This pseudo-isometric infinite runner, set in the near future in the streets of New York, was created as a LudumDare 46 submission. The game has a striking visual style and gameplay consisting of three main features: jumping, shooting enemy drones and recharging the android-main-character's battery by synchronizing pulses of electric current.

The game includes original soundtrack (some fancy electronic music here C:) and artwork created during the jam.

The project is in the early stage of development and we have much to lookforward to: procedural surroundings generation, improving on visuals and gameplay, adding more gameplay features and expanding the world.

Cool concept! unfortunately I wasn't able to run it perfectly as the frame rate was very slow.

@thompson here's a windows build, could work out better than the browser version - https://drive.google.com/file/d/182W5DduZbkM3NlZEiyn4alZetZBuKZZW/view?usp=sharing

Very beaultiful, especially the parallax! The gameplay was fine.
I just think "Space" and "W" for different actions is very confusing, i could not understand how to relload the batteries.
As with thompson, the framerate wasn't so good, but apparently in the desktop version it's better

@boargames Thank you for the feedback C:

We tried to show how to recharge by enlargening UI at the time you should press "W"

Took "Space" and "W" as a hand layout for common games with wasd movement and jump

Framerate is sadly low, a lot of optimizations to be made after the jam ;)

game is quite nice, jsut take care about the blurry effects and lighting, maybe try to keep it pixel art ? I think its possible to keep interesting effects but keep the style together.

@chromaphase thank you for your feedback! Realistic lights & shadows were intentional, as we thought that using pixel-art assets together with realistic effects was quite an interesting visual to create. We would definitely consider trying to make all the effects pixelated during further development to see if it looks better C:

Wow, graphichs and sounds looks cool and atmospheric! Although games runs at low fps and not very responsible, game looks interesting.

Nice art. The color concept is spot on. I'm not sure if it was the fps or something else, but it would take an extra split second for the jump to register. There's a lot to take in for a runner, but it made for a fun challenge.

Thank you for making this game.
Graphics are cool but the game ran with very low FPS on my computer (even in native version).
It was sad because I couldn't play comfortably.

The game looks awesome, and I liked the beat mechanic. The ost was pretty good eventhough it could use more variety during long runs. The kamikaze drones were a bit frustrating nevertheless

Real performance issues, but I guess if you can play the windows version it gets better. Liked the graphics, but the drones were sometimes really quick to get you before you even see them. Overall really great looking though. Nice work.

@romarogov thanks a lot! The problem is - we have a tonne of post-processing and we didn't really have time to bake the lights\optimize\etc. Post-jam development should solve it C:

@hwaet thank you for the feedback! This is not a framerate issue, the jump preparation animation (character bending legs before jumping, etc) just takes too long - we're definitely fixing it soon :)

@squeele thank you a lot! We definitely are to make OST longer and add more variety, it was intended to be quite simplistic during the jam just to add to the vibe and atmosphere.
Yeah, drones need a bit more work as well, as they sometimes go kamikaze mode too early ;)

@achiru thank you, we really appreciate the feedback ;)
Yeah, as I explained in a comment above - we really are to do some optimizing for smoother performance, as we didn't have time for it during the jam. As well as sort out that drones bug, going kamikaze too early ;D

@wakobu thank you for your comment! As mentioned above, we didn't have time to optimize things, so we're definitely putting out an update on that soon C:

Love it. Immersive. Maybe too hard as the game started, the difficulty curve should begin a little lower I think. Love the shader and the feeling to your game. :monkey: :robot:

@cybernetic thank you a lot C: There definitely should be a more player-friendly user curve, I agree. We're gonna do a lot more play-testing during post-jam development, so stay tuned for updates ;)

@guille we really appreciate that you enjoyed the game style :)
As I mentioned in a comment above, we'll make sure that the game is a lot easier to start playing during further development!

Nice art but the game is very hard, and lacks good feedback. Juice it up!

I like the vibe of it and the sound sounded nice and tense. I like more detailed pixel art and different size of pixels on some objects are looking a bit off to me but those those shaders are dope, I like that mix, it's winning, reminded me of The Last Night. A bit harsh to understand the mechanics of the battery charger. Be careful with that blur tho, don't put it too much. Overall it's a quite promising runner, keep it up!
