Competition of Living by bulle

[raw]
made by bulle for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

So, keep it alive... What did that remind me of? - All that I have to do in my life - to manage the hard balance between everything in a world with so little time...

With this reminder, the only thing to do was to make a simulation game of living a life, probably my life - and keep it alive. This might sound easy at first, but it is not - and to be honest, I haven't done any programming for years (and didn't participate since LD17) so was a bit rusty to say the least.

The results; a simulator with questionable graphics, questionable sound, questionable game mechanics - but hey! - That is the results of my priorities in life!

Thanks for showing interest :) // Sune

The GAME!

The concept is simple (and displayed on the beautiful non-virus intro page): balance the important measurable parameters in your life (the top 5 bars) by working with what you can spend your time on (the left 7 bars) - and hey!!!! you!!! - don't cheat looking up my scoring matrix and stuff in the source code!

The activities on the left helps you either increase or decrease the bars on the top.

You prioritize morning, midday, afternoon, evening and night (the five squares on the left). You can drag the squares to prioritize what you want to spend your time on with the consequences that follow.

Once in a while, like in any interesting life, events do happen! - When an event happens you have to deal with it - whether you want it or not - your life simulation cannot continue until then.

The game gets increasingly harder (basically since you have more plants to care for) so try to see how many days you can survive!

Good luck.

Wow! That's a realistic simulator! I can only survive for a month apparently. I liked the song and events description (and outcome). Also, it would be great to have some tooltips explaining every activity, as I'm still curious what was the topmost one about.

@bereg; Life is tough. A good point with the tool tips - I realize looking at it again, it is a bit confusing. - You know the thing that you have your head all in on it and the logic is just there - but then again, it's only in your head. The topmost one (I guess you refer to progress) is about how your life is progressing and going (study, work, etc.).

I loved background music, it was cool, and I'm very sorry for your situation.
At first I thought that this game not so interesting, but then I tried to play the game, and I really got into it, it's interesting to manage your daily activities in this game!

P.S. I always denied "Your friend want to sell drugs" and always accepted "Grandma want's to visit" :D

Interesting simulation. Balancing the various activities in life was a bit of a challenge. It's also not often that you hear an original acoustic guitar song in a LD Jam game, either - so that was interesting.

Great take on the theme! The events would sometimes repeat the same ones a few times in a row but overall it was fun :)

Cool, I liked your game, although I needed a second walkthrough to get what I need to do, I overread the part that I need to move the blocks :D but then it was quite fun, and I got to day 21. Oh and loved the song, good job, I might play some more rounds to get to more days

I survived for 60 days! Pretty fun simulation, well done! And your song is addictive xD

It would be even better with a better UI and some feedback (sounds and visual effects)

@aret24 Thanks :)! I think the graphics could have made it more interesting - I mean, gradient was sort of a last resort - you should have seen my development colors! - And not selling drugs is a good thing - bad for cash flow though...

@43sam Thanks. With the events, it was my implementation that was wrong. I first made a way where I could add events and then they would only play once. Then I realized that Grandma might want to visit more than once. Issue was then that I had to many events and they were not weighted so I added more events - I realize that the random selection with above implementation issues might look weird xD!

@Solah 60 days is really good! - I had my wife run it through multiple time and she managed to get a bit higher (in the 70s) but not that much. And thanks for the input on feedback - just looked through it and replayed it and I agree - just some sounds and vibration would do a whole lot. To be honest, this was never on my backlog of stuff to do but it might have been something easy to do and get live - this is noted for the next time up :)!

The music is awesome. After like 3 minutes it starts to get annoying though, but it's still awesome! =D Good game overall, especially for a compo.

Ohh no I killed my granny! Great music in the game and the concept is pretty cool. Liked the fact that you had events which influences the game, like the event to go on vacation while a pandemic. Thanks for rating and feedback you gave my game.

I could listen to this song all day long!

Very nice concept! Simple enough to do in a weekend and still very funny!

Even if it isn't awesome letting my gramma visit, I just couldn't say no!

Congratulations!
