Lovely Planet (Travel the World) by Elizir

[raw]
made by Elizir for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

Hello together,

after 4 days of Brackeys videos only - i decided to take part in this ludum dare. And nope, i never did anything in Unity before... Nice experiment...

Anyways, what i thought of when i heard "stuck in the loop" was someone who's traveling the world and encounter problems on his way. Thats why i called the project "Travel the world".

I got rid of that idea and heres what i did within approx. 24 hours of work.

LOVELY PLANET is about: ( yeah.. i changed the project name :v: ) An orb traveling the universe with his best friend - his home planet. On his way there are some bad guys (some enemy blocks) that are trying to push him off his planet. If they do so, the game is over. Every enemy you pass sucessfully will give you 1 Point.

I managed to get 80 points myself - i challenge you all to beat me :)

Game Infos: - Move within 2 Lanes with UP and DOWN to avoid being hit by an enemy

- Kill the wall by shooting with SPACE

Jam Infos: - Graphics done with: Affinty Designer - Coding done with: Unity / Visual Studio Code

- Audio: NOTHING (had no more time, i'm sorry)

Great game, loved the mood. Gets hard very fast which gives flappy bird vibes. Ended up with the "just one more round" feeling. Nice work!

So the title on the page is "Lovely Planet (Travel the World)". The zipfile is named "Travel_the_World_BINARY.zip". The folder it contains is titled "Binary". The executable is named "Travel the World". The title screen when you start up says "Lovely Planet".

Which is the actual title?!

All jokes aside, not a bad job for 24 hours of work. Getting anything to move in a curve around a circle can sometimes be a tricky endeavor, so well done either way.

@lestat Thank you very much  @zachsbutt I'm sorry about that, but thats why i wrote in the description "An orb traveling the universe..." i thought that was understandable :flushed: @terabyte I'm happy you enjoyed the game.. next time i'll try a game with music  @fiquem Yeah its a pretty intense game after a while.. never got 100+, really hope that it's not too intense  @rhewid Thank you very much bro! Feels good to hear that @zimny11 Dude?? How did you get that much points? i can't beat myself to be honest.. i feel like the game is a bit too hard / extreme  @newbiedev Next LDJam with music! promise  @agentparsec I know thats kinda confusing  ... first i called the game "travel the world" but that project was kinda overscoped for my knowledge.. so that's why i decided to call it "lovely planet" afterwards

This is a pretty solid game, considering you've never done anything unity before :)

I like how it gets harder as your score goes up, and I think the particle effects and graphics are pretty nice too. Overall, I really like it

@elizir Well, I got it not one the first try, that for sure :P But that I try multiple times says something about the game, right? ;)

Takes me back to some classic games I spent too much time trying to get a score on. Really like the style and the literal loop it puts the player on. Could see how this could be expanded on and all the obstacles that could be added.

A really cute little game with a cool idea. I was hope for some more enemies, like ones that change lanes or ones that get bigger and kill you if you shoot them (otherwise you can just keep spamming shoot). Either way this was really neat for a gamejam game! Well done!

Got a dizzy from this wild ride of a game.

I like the idea of the game. It's easy to start but hard to master. However, shooting seems redundant in the game, as I can spam it without any restrictions.

A very good game, a concept that respects the theme by adding its extra side to increasing speed.

I had an extremely good time, and stressful everytime the speed got so fast, a really fun game.

With a little more time you could have probably convert this game to a state where its really fun to play! These Enemies i had to shoot were way to easy and overall the difficulty curve wasnt the hardest. Maybe a cooldown for the shooting and more enemies would help! And for the next time you should probably upload a webgl build to get more rating

I think concept was pretty cool! I really like how you are destroying brown enemies in shadow. (So you don't need to work for death animation right? Clever design choice right there!)

Kept me playing for like 10 minutes, and i think it is awesome for a game jam entry.

Good job!

Think you've taught yourself really well and executed this to a very good standard given how long you've been working with Unity. Well done.

Make a mobile game from that concept! Love this spiky-teeth monsters

Nice game! Besides the obvious like adding music/sfx, I'd consider a more gradual difficulty ramp-up - now it seemed (at least to me) that the difficulty stepped up in sudden jumps at around 40 points for example. A more constant increase might make it less obvious, although I guess it's debatable which is better :)

Anyhow I think this is an excellent effort; good, simple gameplay, nice visuals and nice theme interpretation. You could very well make this into a mobile game or a more polished little game e.g on itch.io :)

Nice, pleasing game, even though simple. Projectiles already feel good to shoot without any sound, which isn't trivial to achieve. But do use sounds, as the simplest ones already improve the gameplay a lot. Good job! I got 68 points.

Thank you everyone for that amazing feedback and good reviews on what i should add / what you guys missed and so on  - I'm currently working on my unity skills so that my next entry will be "hopefully" way better than that - Thanks again to all of you

Nice one! It is pretty cool to be your first Unity game. Brackeys has saved everyone's life sometime :D

Hope you keep working on it and see you in next Ludum Dare with great entry.

By te way, I tried to beat you but after 60 points it impossible for me :')

Well polished entry. Loved the lighting! Maybe make enemies come from both clockwise and counter clockwise. Then you can choose to shoot left or right by tapping on the left or right side of the screen!

The speed up is drastic, was not prepared at the 60 points mark, only got around 75 max. Maybe some more things to shoot at and some more spaces to move between like 3-4 instead of 2, would add a lot more game feel and thought when playing it, instead of stay at the ground or die. Simple and nice game overall!
