Take The Cargo Home by Hello.ST

[raw]
made by Hello.ST for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

My finished game called 'Take The Cargo Home':

https://hello-st.itch.io/take-the-cargo-home

A space courier simulator where you pilot a broken spaceship and need to deliver precious cargo (a giant squid). You need to navigate around meteor fields and into wormholes which take you to the next stage.

Please check out my game and let me know if you find any bugs!

This was my first online game jam and first ever Ludum Dare. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a lot! This is also my first 'finished' game that I've made solo, so I'd be keen to receive feedback, especially since the game experiments with a 'broken' ship for the gameplay. I would have liked to create more levels, but ran out of time. I'm definitely keen to refine the gameplay, UI and design more levels in the very near future.

Good luck to all LD participants!

Really cool retro design :) it's really solid start for a first game jam

I like the rugged lo-fi art style. Matched the music perfectly.
I beat the game, but to be honest, my ship was spinning uncontrollably and I was just lucky to get pushed into a wormhole by random chance. It's really hard to regain control over your ship. But I guess, that's kinda the point :)

The aesthetic is great, but i can't move without spin myself and dizzy my head. I guess is great sim for real cosmos. Good Job. I like it.

I get that you maybe made the controls a bit weird to emulate the feeling of a destroyed gyroscope but it felt more annoying and I got dizzy from my ship spinning insanely and there felt like there was no way to undo it. It would've also been nice to have sound effects in the game instead of just music. The graphics were very nice. Good job on your first ld though. Keep at it, I remember when I was in your exact position, keep making games!

I had a whole butt ton of trouble controlling the ship after I hit an asteroid, but I'm guessing that's the idea  The graphics and music are great.

I loved the art style and for some reason it's giving me old Star Trek vibes, especially with the static. Controls I feel should be a little faster and mapped better as I keep forgetting what keys did certain movements. Great innovative game nonetheless!

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to play my game and giving great feedback! I definitely took a risk implementing the 'broken ship' mechanic and it looks like it makes the game too frustrating and I definitely don't want to make people feel too dizzy! I'll aim to get an updated version with smoother movement mechanics asap. I'll also make time to play your games too!

I join the comments about uncontrolled rotation. And I get seasick. :( I think you will solve problems soon.

I like minimalistic graphics, music, charming live cargo and the idea itself.

I didn't know where to go at the begging of the game. Can you add a pointer to the target?
Also, maybe two-handed control would be better? Use one hand to control the tilt, and the other – turns and movement.

Congratulations on your first jam!

Thanks for your feedback! That's a great suggestion about two-handed controls and target pointers. I'll definitely test out a few ideas to fix the navigation bugs in an update very soon!

good looking stylish game! I find the control layout unintuitive, and that's before the gyro issues.

Art style is great! Overall idea looks promising but controls are bit hard to comprehend. Nevertheless, good job!
