Flowdating by spthiel

[raw]
made by spthiel for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

A dating sim with a flower that you have to keep alive. Controls are clicking.

For the flowers best health you have to keep the water and sun bar in the center. Watering the flower fills the waterbar and keeping the flower in the bright will increase the sun bar while keeping the flower in the dark will decrease the bar. With the curtain-button you can toggle the brightness of the room

Love this. Never have played a dating sim

This is a great idea! I love the feeling that you are playing two games at once, and enjoyed the dialogue options and prompts to remember past conversations. I couldn't tell if the answers had an impact on how the plant was doing?
Unfortunately the dialogue looped quite quickly for me, and the water/sunlight was a bit too easy to keep in a good range. But great concept and I would love to play a more challenging version with more conversations :)

@scifi6546 Thanks! :D

@captainabi The answers do have an impact on how the plant is doing and if you actually want to finish on an affection run, you have to use them to your advantage. I do agree tho that there isn't a hole lot of questions but I couldn't come up with more of them so I looped them.
Also I intentionally wanted the water and sun to be simple because I wanted to have the game more on the zen side than a difficult game

interesting genre-blend of a dating sim and a virtual pet game here! I didn't find it immediately intuitive that I wanted bars to stay in the center (until water got too high and turned red). That was good feedback, maybe it would help more to give some sort of marker in the center or increase the effect you already have.

@wzqxrys Thanks! The color is actually random from a set of 4. Also could you please also rate my mood and innovation? :grin:

Playing this fun game does not last long, but leaves you in very positive mood :)
And yep my first idea was also aiming to max out the bars.

When I first started playing it looked really interesting and fun to play. Also, I enjoyed the kind of humor present in the conversation. However, it started to get repetitive as the questions were always the same and the game didn´t seem to have an end. But overall, it looks great. Good job :)

@onnofal There is a pretty dark ending which probably wouldn't last you in a very positive mood :grimacing: but thanks!

@delunado there's 6 endings just I feel like they aren't easy to achieve if one doesn't know the working in the background
(spoilers below)
> 1. Get to max affection and accept
> 2. Get to max affection and deny
> 3. Get to max height
> 4. Get to min height
> 5. Get to min sun
> 6. Get to max sun

(spoilers end)

@lesinvisible thanks! :smile:

Neat little game. I see now that there are many endings, I avoided getting him to max sun because he said he sometimes gets too much sunlight. I did't know about the affection meter, i just gave up because I assumed i had seen it all after a long line of repeated dialogue. That being said, I really enjoyed the humor with this one. Great work!

Cool game, I appreciate the effort in designing all the different endings even though I don't have the patience to get through each of them. :stuck_out_tongue: I got married to the flower at the end. The humor in the concept and the writing are really nice. Small note, the algebra question doesn't make any sense to me but I figured out what the "right" answer was after a round or two of seeing it. The flower sprite and the way it grows is really cute. My only criticism is that the music is pretty repetitive but there's a mute button so it's fine. Nice work!

I had human/plant kids and we died together! Now I'm playing again, and it t pains me to keep it alive only to be mean to it and see it sad and cry... Amazing entry~
Too bad there's no ending for min affection.

@lexyvil omg I don't know why I didn't think of that ending :joy: Yes, that should totally exist

Also @ruthiepee happy you two got to the affection ending ^^

As for the algebra question: Aside from me not fixing the ² in the question I also just noticed that I never updated the equasion when I updated the answers it should have actually been x² + 2x = 35 :sweat:
