Premise

You must escape the warehouse. Mysterious entities lurk in the shadows. Scavenge for batteries, keep the lantern alive and it will you!

Controls

Movement: WASD / ZQSD / Arrows (whichever you prefer)

Development

Unusual for me, I didn't over-scope too much. Some things could probably do with a bit of tweaking. I would've liked to have spent more time polishing the endgame events and adding more of a prologue.

I used my usual tools (Phaser 3, Aseprite, Irfanview, Audacity, bfxr, Tiled) with the addition of BeepBox to make the ambient "music" loop. I'd not used it before but it's great, really intuitive, well worth checking out.

All feedback / issues welcome. Hope you enjoy the game! :)

Very good execution, atmoshere is amazing, and the only thing I dislike is the pixel perfect camera component making the whole screen jitter.

I like the art and atmosphere for sure. Not sure if there's an actual goal aside from keeping your lantern lit so it got a little stale after a while bot overall pretty good.

I couldnt find the source code. I liked the mood of your game. Sounds are good.

This is AMAZING! The eerieness of the music, combined with the jitter of the spooky enemies makes for a legitimatley creepy setting. This was quite a lot of fun to play. I wasn't sure if there was a main task to complete, like 'Get to the exit', or something - as then there would be another reason to stay alive. Overall the game was great. The graphics and music where a joy, and so far it's one of the spookiest Ludum Dare games I've seen. Kudos!

The game has great atmosphere. One thing that would have made it really great is a better sense of progression. As I wandered around the warehouse, I couldn't tell if I was progressing, and how far I was from the goal.

Great atmosphere! I really liked the audio and visuals.
And the yellow arrows hinting towards the exit is a nice touch.

I'm a battery-life paranoid IRL, this game played well with my fears :)

Really cool ! The atmosphere was amazing, and the sound design helped a lot to give a feeling of insecurity ! The art is also great !

Could beat the game in the third attempt. The art is really nice and works great with the atmosphere. Love the sound and design of the monsters. Good stuff! The core gameplay is very simple and requires some try and error to get through, so that might be a problem for some. If I wouldn't have found the exit after the third attempt, I would've given up I guess.

All in all, great entry for a compo. Has a really polished feel to it. No obious bugs and even sound etc. Awesome!

I really enjoy the atmosphere of the game, well done ! I think the game is a bit hard and need some balancing. The ZQSD control scheme is a nice touch for azerty users !

Good job !

Really nice jam horror =D
As a bite sized horror game this is pretty close to perfection. It's probably tricky to expand on this to something bigger and better, but I genuinely enjoyed this ^^
Too bad that I managed to escape on my first attempt. Would probably have gotten a bigger kick out of it if I didn't =)

So I could find one battery in the beginning. Couldn't find one after......
Still, the pixel art and audio was damn nice. The mood was the best thing this game had going for it and it did it well. A nice entry overall, just make the batteries a little easier to spot

Thank you everyone for your comments and feedback! I apologise to those that found it too hard or too easy - I'll try to save more time to balance these things in future (it's always a squeeze at the end!)

I've tried to play all your games too, a few still to go.

@icxon thank you for taking the time to record your playthrough! You are correct, the monsters are scared of the light so won't attack until your battery has run out - they will try to follow you though. Incidentally, I just made your Protolife connection. I bought that on Steam a few years ago. I've played through a few times, it's really good!

The mechanic is simple but tightly executed. Graphics are very good when running in fullscreen. Found my way out on the second try mostly due to luck. Nice Game!

Love it! Just the kind of game I always hope to find when playtesting LD games. Minimalistic but spot on. Brilliant atmosphere. Just the right amount of complexity in the levels. The graphics suit the game really well. Really, I've got nothing to complain about here, small but good idea and flawless execution.
(Also: beat it on my first attempt, which made me feel proud so I may now like your game a little more than I would otherwise :D)

I made it! Second try. Collected four batteries I think. Good use of the theme. The battery hud up'd the tension. Environment art was cohesive and fit the tone. Nice jam!

Yey, made it ! Good job with the creepy atmosphere. While I did not enjoy the sound of my char walking, nor the werid beepy sounds of the enemies, the art was great, and background music perfect to set the mood. The design of the enemies was especially great, I tried to have one stuck behind a shelf for a while to admire it ahah. Batteries were just big and colorful enough to be not too easy nor too hard to spot, and auto pick-up had just the right detection size :ok_hand:

A really atmospheric game! It makes you fear the monsters even before you see one up close. The creepy ambient sounds and music also work in the game's favour.

One thing I'd like the game to have is some way to mark your progress. Without it, the player just stumbles around in the dark, trying to figure out whether they've been in this corridor before or not. It does improve the mood of the game, but I feel like it also makes the gameplay itself too frustrating.

Other than that, it's a wonderful entry. Beautiful art style, great audio and amazing atmosphere. ;)

Very nice game! I am fond of the minimalistic style employing pixel art (I do it myself :D) so thumbs up! The music is atmospheric. Thank you also for mentioning the BeepBox, I dindt know that there is such a useful tool.

Creepy game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/S9pVfrriZ3E

Nice game! I didn't think it was too hard, like some people suggested. Though I did go straight towards a monster the first time I saw one to see what happened and I didn't die until 3 or 4 seconds into the hug.
