Luna Blanca by OddTimes

LunaBlanca_Cover.png

Stranded in a hostile world, you have to fight strange alien lifeforms inhabiting this bizarre planet.

As you explore the area, you feel your equipment is not suited for the task, as not only your oxygen capacity expires rapidly but also your energy and ammunition are extremly limited. Luckily, the bodies of the creatures seem to provide a variety of useful materials, enabling you to craft enhancements for your equipment.

However, an unknown force appears to hinder your ship from moving. Find its origin and get off this planet!

This game was also submitted to JamCraft 5, due to same day deadline and thematic fit for both jams.

Controls:

Played with Keyboard and Mouse.

A/D: Move

Left Click: Shoot

Space: Jump

Hints:

This Game saves your progress everytime you are near your ship, as soon as the restoring of your attributes starts. After entering your ship for upgrades, all lifeforms respawn.

Every alien type has two different drops. One drops commonly, the other appears more rarely. Drops usually disappear after some time with the exceptions of some respawning treasures.

Tubes are required for some of the higher upgrade levels, as upgrades need additional material types later.

Ending:

MINOR SPOILER AHEAD

Far to the left is a unique boss alien significantly larger and more powerful than the usual aliens.

When beating it, you win the game. Afterwards, you can continue playing, but obviously then there is no real challenge left, currently.

Simple yet cool graphics. Love the upgrade mechanic + restocking mechanic, always makes me want to explore further and further with the upgrades!

I really enjoyed this game. Was a little difficult to control at times, but aside from that this is one of my favourite entries.

I love that it feels like a metroidvania, a more grindy one. My biggest complaint would be that the controls feel a bit unprecise, it frustatingly often happened to me that after jumping you got stuck on a corner and lose precious time and die right before the ship. Being able to control how high the jump is depending on the duration you keep the button pressed would be a huge help to prevent this. Overall a great game though.

very nice pixel art and i love the mood of the game. soundtrack is fitting and firing a shot feels so satisfying with this little effect. I also liked the way the light around the player changes accoring to his health. good work!

Very cool! Not much to critisize gameplay wise. It's a hassle at first because you have to return to your ship very quickly, but other than that, a solid entry.

I'm a little confused though, since it looks like that the game was an entry to another gamejam? At least that's what it says on the game page. The theme does not really fit either (which is not really a problem per se). The other jam even ran 10 days. Could you make it clear in your decription and/or disclose under which curcumstances this game was originally made?

But assuming that the game was made in the three days that were targeted here, I'd say this is a very good entry! Polished gameplay, big world and lot's of upgrades. Cool stuff!

Like others here I have only one issue - is the controls. Love the addition of the light source as gameplay affecting feature.

Love the low-spec art and the kill-stuff-get-materials-upgrade-suit gameplay loop is satisfying.

It was annoying to have all the enemies respawn when I entered the ship to upgrade my stuff (or just check prices). I got stuck in a loop trying to get past the little side-scrolly critters immediately to the right of the ship, and dying when I fall in the hole from getting bounced back and forth between the two patrollers down there. Didn't love the super floaty jumping, but it also felt kinda right, being in space. I felt very bad at surviving on this planet.

wow solid entry, loved the mood ... didn't like jumping too much, I know it has low gravity but I felt em too slow . I'll definitely come back and try to finish it

I really enjoy this game! A couple of things I feel need mentioning:
1. Controls, this would feel way more clean with a controller
2. The bottom leftmost area after the eyeball worm fast shooting aliens you can get stuck. there's a bunch of loot down there, but you can't get out.
3. The darksouls, hollow knight esque bad guys and loot come back when you enter the ship but you can choose to heal up and keep collecting further instead is perfect. Don't change that.
4. Personal preference here really, but maybe mute the colors of the hud a bit to match the atmosphere, and add subtle scrolling to the stars in the bg.

I would play this game if it were a full release game with some minor quality improvements. Thank you for that. I spent 40 minutes.

i spent a full hour in your game! that says something about the addictive nature of your upgrade system. there are several things i grew to hate though:

-the path to the left has such a weired step-system that you cant "speedrun" it

-the floaty air movement would be ok but it clashes with the sudden spikes in mobility when you want to adjust your position on the edge of a cliff for example

-the collisions in small corridors are a bit buggy like the long snake like path with the bubble and lumen loot

-the "seahorses" can easiely push you through walls wenn you're in a corner

-the bullets of the enemies scale with your bullet-power upgrades (which makes the left path near impossible when you get two shotted by the shooter-enemy)

that i still didn't quit shows just how good the rest of the game really is.
a really great entry!

p.s what are the tubes good for? are they just unused or did i miss something?

The music and the concept are amazing, had much fun to play the game and i really liked that you can uprade your skills.

The only thing, but i think thats something more personal, is that all the little aliens respawn when you go to your ship... my struggle was that i didn't made it so far as i wanted to collect all items the enemys drop, so i was litterally mostly of the beginning on the map and killing aliens just like a psycho....
As the oxygen goes down really fast i ended up killing the first 4 aliens, rushing back to the ship and do the exact same thing...

Overall i really liked the music the artstyle and especially the gameplay (except from my personal issue)
Great job!!

Excellent line art style. Liked the color shifts and the enemies/pickups. Smooth soundtrack. Could play this for while. Felt like I was resetting the map more often than I would have liked at the beginning, but otherwise good pacing. Nice work!

I've played for an hour and then gave up. It takes a bit too long and both my hands got cramp.

You could probably start all from level 5 and it would still be very challenging.

At least you could now add microtransactions to speed up the game

Other than that, it's a fine game.

I liked it a lot, although it got quite tedious haha Definitely satisfying getting more upgrades as it went on though! I wasn't a fan of the movement, especially the jumping, but I assume it's intentional that it was so floaty since it's in space.
