Eggy Roll by RomaRogov

[raw]
made by RomaRogov for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Help little egg find the way to home nest! To do this, you should roll down by the dream fields, and keep it alive.

Control egg with swipes or arrow keys. Be gentle: sharp moves and falls will break your egg! And try to avoid stones: they will break egg instantly. Speaking of good things - there is 15 stars on every level, and collecting them is pretty challenging task. Try to collect as much as possible!

If first levels looks pretty easy - just go on, every new level will be a little harder :)

Here is some screenshots: eggyrollscreenshots.png

Update: I composed some calmy music and added it to the web build. Hope it can be treated as bugfix, I did opt-out Audio category anyway :)

Hi, tried to play in HTML5 version. But got 404:

Maybe you've forgot to publish it from draft stage?

I really enjoyed it, reminded me a bit of monkey ball series ;)
Adding a bit more variety to level design would be nice)

Fun little game. I found (surprisingly ?) the first level to be challenging enough, mainly due to the way the egg moves. The graphics are very sharp, and everything responds perfectly. Great job !

Strenghts :
- Cute graphics
- Great take on the theme
- Tight physics-based controls

Possible improvements :
- Show a minimap of the level to anticipate the required directions in which we need the egg to go

Thanks! Levels are autogenerated for now, but on level ~20 it begins to be interesting.
Levels will be harder and harder until level 100. I'm still on level 31 now :)

hey! pretty fun little game. I'd love to have some sound effects to go along with it.

On the web on my Mac there are frequent long lags that make it a little hard to control - I really like the graphics though and the motion is interesting to play with!

Oh my god the tension in rolling the egg!
Simple and very elegant concept, I see a lot of potential for a mobile game.
I wasn't able to go up for some reason, but I guess it is intended: if that's the case, maybe it could have been more intuitive to go upwards and give a clear feedback on why I can't.
Maybe having only one possible direction (like everything could be a downwards slope) in each level could help.
Great job, very smart.

It's fun trying to roll the egg because it's irregular and a bit unpredictable. The only thing I didn't like is perhaps the going towards the camera movement, I'll prefer to see a bit what's ahead!
I had fun though, really. Congrats.

Hey this was nice game, beautiful visuals and nice level complete animation! I only had ifficulty navigating, maybe zoom camera out or more narrow levels could help viewing the levels? With additional features and gameplay refinining this can be a real fun mobile game! Great job guys, good entry.

the physics feels really nice. I find it hard to find all stars though.

Very nice and simple concept, 100% fit in theme. I would maybe add sea sounds and some caribean music to enhance game experience and make game more live and funny.

P.S.

And yes, what about Easter Eggs in a game related to ~~Easter~~ Eggs? Are there some?

@romarogov FYI: this could be interesting for you. A 2D dimension incarnation of your game :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/breaking-egg

Wow! This game is really good! Superb combination of graphics, mechanics, and audio for an great mood! Really had a fun and peaceful time playing it!

(P.S. I know how you feel, I also didn't realise you had to make an itch.io project public after publishing it.)

2nd edit :) Wanted to say that the egg breaking was executed really well!

Not a bad game. It started out interesting, but by level 3 it felt like I had played the same level 3 times. Perhaps some color variation or something?

@stefanie-leitch good idea, thanks! Difficulty curve is a bit slow actually, but I was afraid to scare casual gamers :)

Very nice game. I liked the element of having a non-spherical object to control, it adds some interest to the controls. Nice graphics.

Overall, I found the gameplay enjoyable. At first I was confused as to why I couldn't roll forward, but quickly figure out that the egg starts off on a slope. I agree with the comment above, it would be great to ad some color variation within the levels so they all have a different feel.

Saving the egg from splatting was a fun take on the theme!

It's super cool to see a mobile game on the jam, especially a good one like that. Pretty simple concept but very well executed. Very smooth and satisfying to play. Just a feedback : sometime it's hard to estimate if your movement is going to break the egg, and you end up surprised of loosing. Except that it's a super cool game really enjoyed.

Nice game! maybe it could do with more level variety. Thought the 3D graphics were nice, though it was odd the stars were only 2D.

This overall a simple little game idea. The game is okay fun too play, but I would wish it got harder much faster.

Very nice music and sounds. The 3D art is good and clean. (Perhaps it would be good to make the stars collectibles in 3D too). Not much in the theme but the game is interesting. We feel the fragility of the egg, and it's good to manage a smooth way to avoid to break it. (And small joke : The bottom of the ocean is very hot to make fried egg directly ^^). Congrat.

Good one. The music makes it very relaxing. Maybe a bit more variety could make it a bit more entertaining.
