Keep The Blobs Alive by BilbyCoder

[raw]
made by BilbyCoder for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

The blobs need to get healthy enough to enter hibernation. Unfortunately the feeders have been corrupted with poison. Also the blobs aren't overly intelligent. You are a janky cheaply made robot. Clear the poison and help the blobs get to the nutrients. Keep them alive to enter hibernation.

Good Luck

the controls could be less floaty for this type of precision game.

Good job! Nice concept! Needs a bit of work on the controls and maybe some collisions on the nutrients so they dont overlap (making it hard to just collect the good ones).

The concept is great but the controls make it very hard to act fast.

Good take on the theme, as someone else commented here some collisions to avoid nutrient overlaps would been good. Also maybe a bit higher movespeed.
The music was really nice.

I think I have worse controlls xD also this game feels kind of like a big escort quest that you complete by sitting on top of one of the blobs as you are too slow to help them all feels a bit like Missile command where you had to defend cities from missiles coming from the sky. Well done and congratulations on your first ludum dare submissionn!

Oh no! I ded!
Cute game. I'm surprised that you were able to make the blobs that cute with such simple graphics. The way they cry for help when they are lying on their back...

Thank you to *deep breath* @jcmonkey, @generalsturgeon, @ofirma85, @alex-chrome, @thooom, @sode, @scottthoo, @charliegray, @nekoruma and @potatoandtaco for playing and commenting on my game. Also thanks to anyone who has played and rated my game without leaving a comment.

I am in the process of considering ways that I can improve and expand on the game, maybe get a post-ludum version out. We'll see.

Keeping them all alive seems impossible. I agree that bigger gravity would be better. I especially liked the soundtrack, it was amazing!

@suchista yeah, a lot of tuning is required if I make a post ld release. With regards to the music I'm not a good composer so I turned too this procedural generation tool. Still took a bit of work to get results I liked. https://pernyblom.github.io/abundant-music/index.html

Took me way too long to figure I had to keep "jumping" to fly. With that knowledge it was an interesting challenge to be able to balance navigation with speed / pickups. Quite nostalgic music, reminded me of old time games. :)
Well done for first compo!

Pretty cool in terms of concept, although I wish the gameplay was a little tighter with less randomness. The use of the theme is really core to this one, which I commend. Good work overall.

@quinn-patrick @lars-erik and @clockmaster Thanks for giving it a look. The controls certainly need tightening. And there is definitely more to come with this game, just in a slightly different format. The controls and balance are going to be a big focus.

As I was making it the game felt a bit like the NES games I played in the past. I've been looking for an excuse to learn Pico-8 and I think I've found one.

The controls feels a bit weird, otherwise a ncie game.

Loved the music.

I've only realized during the play that you can rotate a mouse by pressing space.

High score would be nice to see how far you have got. Also game doesn't become harder with time.

But anyway interesting concept. Well done.

Idea for the game is pretty fun and fits the theme greatly. Game looks kinda unbalanced, but that's not detroying the game. Great job!
