Escape of Saunangeon by YouBeStrong

[raw]
made by YouBeStrong for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

I procrastinated quite a bit but managed to get the main things I wanted working. The game doesn't have any audio sadly. I may had some basic sound effect in the future to make things easier since it can get quite dark.

I found the game very pretty, with the integration of 2D assets in a 3D environment. It made me think of Paper Mario. I think a torch duration bar would have been cool.

I spent a good time to test your game.
I made a game if you want to test it.

I though I'd just chill in my steamy sauna love dungeon in peace, but these water bucket raider kobolds are relentless. The battle took its toll on me, so I think I must just be satisfied chilling out in the dark. These kobolds are handy with the water bucket though, so washing up shall be easy.

Pretty nice art style! It's quite hard though, couldn't get to the end. Did not find the snail :/

Great job!

Found it a little tricky to navigate because of the lack of landmarks but I liked that the light of the torch actually dimmed in the world as you ran out of "power". Nice touch.

Such a great art style!! Actually the lack of SFX doesn't affect that much as you thought maybe  Love to know what you think of my entry~

The graphics are lovely and easy to get lost, but it's not a big problem. I like the combination of 3D and 2D visual effect, Good job!

Thanks everyone for the comments and feedback so far! I definitely overe-steam-ated the difficulty level. That was not my intention. Being the only one play testing the maze during the jam likely led to that. I'll see what I can do to alleviate this in the post-jam release!

@massealex I may have forgotten to place one... Will have to fix that and consider it a major bug fix.

@schmavery Ohhh that's a great idea! Even if they served only as decorations, unique looking landmarks would be a tremendous help in this otherwise very uniform looking sauna.

@mightycode @yinian Thank you very much! I'm glad to hear you liked the combination of 2D and 3D! It's one of my favorite style for games!

Neat little game. A little difficult to avoid the water and hit the steam-bolds with the sword, but it was fun nonetheless. I like the short introduction to the world, quite a unique take.

I really like the graphic style, it's not very common and it makes the game stand out from the others. I would have enjoyed a little music during my adventure, maybe in a future update if you have time ? Anyway, nice work :)

The mix of 2D and 3D graphics was cool, and makes the game stand out. On the other hand, it's a shame that the rooms look all alike, so it's easy to get lost after the first two turns. A bit of polish on that (or something like trails left on the floor) would help quite a lot with navigation, and playability of the game.

After losing a couple of times, I felt demotivated to continue, because there it didn't look like I'd have a chance to get out (or even repeat the same route as I already did).

Kinda spooky even without sound. Looked pretty good. Sound would've made the mood perfect. I wish I could run a little faster. Great job!

I liked the mechanic, but I would like to know when the enemies are about to attack and how far does my attack goes, several times I was like "Im gonna kill this Mo$%&$fuc$%&R" but it didnt got hit Iwas the one killed :'v

Although the lack of sound and particle effectas are noticable, it is overall a great game.

Keep it up :D

Really cool take on the theme, and the only first-person game I've played in this LD so far! I got a little lost, but made me kept retrying. Great job!
