YOU MISSED MY STOP by Roolow

[raw]
made by Roolow for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

All Graphics, Code, and Sound were made by me within 48 hours during the Ludum Dare 47 Compo. (...Except for the font). Screenshot 2020-10-04 164929.png CONTROLS:

Right/Left Arrows: Turn Down Arrow: Slam the air brakes OBJECTIVE: Pickup people and drop them off at their destination. Mostly for fun. (Try to get a good time and don't forget to share it!)

                                               YOU MISSED MY STOP

The 22nd Century is mostly pretty ok. But now that the novelty of flying cars has gone, people are starting to realize they actually kinda suck. For one thing, anywhere you go, you still need roads. So most people didn't buy one. Only problem with that is there aren't many air taxis (don't even ask about what happened to smart phone apps) and there's only so much space to stand and wait up there in the clouds. Also why did they make so many traffic circles!? Screenshot 2020-10-04 185322.png Screenshot 2020-10-04 185439.png

I really dig the style.
Cool mix with 3d graphics and pixel art.

At times it seemed a little weird using left/right to shift lanes (at certain positions around curves) but I'm not entirely sure you how'd adjust that (perhaps using left/right/up/down input as a direction,a nd shifting that way? You may have tested that but I'm unsure).

As far as an idea goes, its simple but executed fairly well! I don't say simple in a 'of poor quality' way, as sometimes the simplest ideas are the most fun. Great job!

This was a neat concept. I was able to let my 4-year old play too.

Short and sweet, just a neat little game. I wasn't really a huge fan of the breaking sound though, and the turning was a bit unresponsive, but otherwise, good job!

Thanks for playing! The turning being "unresponsive" was my fault do to a late deliberate change. I realized you could brake and then immediately change lanes which would make it too easy to get fast times. So I made it so you couldn't change lanes if you were under 1/3 of max speed. Of course, I didn't have time to give any feedback for that, so it just appears busted. Also I agree that breaking sound effect I could've done alot better :(

I had a good time playing your game! I would have kept playing if there were more levels for sure. Well done!

When the game ends and you want to play more, that is the mark of a good game. This is one of those games. I didn't have too many problems with the controls and I thought the overall presentation was great! The sound used for braking was a little unexpected too some time to get used to. Congrats on finishing and submitting your game!

Nice concept - I have not seen anything quite like it before. If there were more levels I would still be playing. The abstract graphics worked well.

Thanks! Sadly I was working on an amazing (in my opinion) 3rd level with some interesting new mechanics, but of course I didn't finish in time. I'm inspired to continue adding to this game. Thank you all for checking it out!

Really think you have something here. Feels like a modernized version of those car racing games in those 99 games in one things. I like it.

Ahaha. Yes, I'm not an artist, but can I try. I combined a few different styles and tools (Aseprite, Blender with Sprytile, and Marmoset 3). Thanks for playing!

Greetings from the MAYHEM Bus Lines! Cool to see another game around the *BEST* theme, public transport. I think there is quite a lot of potential for a driving game with no "real" steering, instead having vehicles on a strict track. Here's two games I enjoyed with similar theme: [Loop Back to the Future](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/loop-back-to-the-future) and [SUPERCONDUCTOR](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/superconductor-1).

Like many others here, I also quite liked your mix of low poly 3D mixed with pixel art. I also wouldn't have minded seeing some more levels! I'm sure there would have been more to explore with this concept. 48 hours is a very short time, I only managed one level.

Once I turned down the sound, It was pretty good, wish there was more levels with more unique track designs but definitely a start!

That was fun - with a bit of finessing and adjustment of the braking / lane hopping mechanic, this'd be a decent mobile game.

I managed to deliver my passenger while also getting crashed into , and I still won!

@johnnysix Yes I noticed that happens and didn't have time to adjust the level, but i didn't want to punish the player for my sloppy layout aha. I do intend to follow up with this, and making it a mobile game I believe is the right direction. Glad you liked it!
