Sisyphus by PrimalShadow

[raw]
made by PrimalShadow for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

You play as the ex-CEO of a large corporate empire that has been banished to the underworld, tasked with carrying a boulder up the spire, but doomed to repeat the near impossible task as the boulder will fall down quite easily.

Use the arrow keys to move, press the space bar to pick up and drop or throw the boulder. Hold down either left or right while carrying the boulder then press space to throw.

There are some really cool mechanics in here, though I personally feel that the first part of the game is already quite hard which makes it hard to get used to the controls. Overal I really like the game especially the mechanics, and the references to greek mythology are always a plus :)

The interesting mechanic of platforming with a boulder was hampered by the clunky and unpredictable controls. Perhaps it was intended for effect, but the end result was that it made the game unfun.

I liked the premise of the game, but I got badly stuck at the 2 first diagonal platforms, it is indeed an impossible task and I'll never know if this was by design :p

That was a very challenging task! Liked that take on the theme, pretty neat. Graphics are nice and objective is clear enough. Just felt controls were not responding nicely, especially when trying to throw the boulder in the middle of a jump. But still fun to play, well done!

Cute pixel art and really interesting mechanic. I'll mirror others' sentiments regarding the slightly confusing controls and the immediate hardness of the level. Easing into it would've been great, but I eventually got the hang of it. An enjoyable entry nonetheless. Good work :)

Hey! so I didn't finish it yet. It's quite tedious and I wish I could more intuitively launch the boulder into a direction. I guess it's supposed to feel tedious so hey... But anyway, would be more enjoyable if you could either aim at least a bit or always launch it forward.

I LOVED the little CEO sprite, so cute.
Also I like the weight of the boulder during jumps and how the jump is perfect for the camera viewport but INSANE for the size of the man, feels great.

I just wish the boulder felt good to launch, if you improve this let me know and I will play it again.

Overall nice entry, gj!

Excellent game, very hard and very nice mechanic! Fits the theme perfectly, and the gamplay feels nice and smooth.

Turned it off after first triangles, the part with square steps. Still, it took me 15 minutes to get there.

You did good, if not too good job at portraying hell.

The idea of it feels like an original game that could be a bit popular, with some polishing, for example it would be more fun for me to dangle on the chain when the rock gets stuck on upper platform rather than the rock falling through it. But I guess you might have done it that way if you had more time. Or you just wanted to torment us more. But very well done.

I've beaten it, I'm out of hell! I had my fun and I was just a little bit frustrated. The choice of choosing Sisyphus is a very good idea for the theme. I like this idea.

The background graphics could use some more editing (too many rough edges). On the other side you did a good job on the character sprite. Good job!
