Control Loss by D-Studios

made by D-Studios for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

Control Loss is a top-down 2D shooter. In each level, the player must kill all the enemies without dying. The player dies if the player is shot to death (HP reaches 0) or if the player collides with a wall or enemy. The player can kill an enemy by shooting the enemy three times. Bullets can harm both the player and enemies. Bullets are destroyed if they collide with a wall, the player, another bullet, or an enemy. In each level, the player is stuck in a loop where their actions are controlled except for brief moments of player control. The enemies are also stuck in a looped AI behavior.Screen Shot 2020-10-04 at 2.02.43 PM.pngScreen Shot 2020-10-04 at 2.03.11 PM.pngScreen Shot 2020-10-04 at 2.03.32 PM.png

The loss of control is the hardest thing about it, sometimes I almost had all enemies - and then I was smashed into a wall... All enemies reset :(

But overall: I liked the idea and the selfmade graphics/music. Keep it up!

Solid gameplay loop, movement, shooting and all collisions worked as you'd expect! I would have liked more of a progress curve with more enemies or different wall alignments for the waves, but this might fit the theme better :)

Some of the out of control moments felt a little unforgiving as you could just crash into a wall :P

As already mentioned in the comment above: Nice touch with adding your own graphics and music!

Good base game.
The basic control, shooting and collisions all seems solid. The two things I think would have made the game really shine is some Sound Effects and an indicator for when the next loss of control was incoming. Since now it only forced you to keep in the center of the corridors to not bump into the walls.

It was hard at first with the loss of control, but after a while I figured out that the best strategy is to just stay far away from any walls and enemies. At that point, the game got very easy.

Shooting bullets was a cool idea, but it was usually easier to just dodge them. Maybe if you added homing missiles that follow the player, shooting bullets could become a much more important mechanic.

The enemies moving through walls seemed like it might've been a glitch, but I actually liked it because it made it harder to hit them. It's almost as if the AI were using the walls as cover!

Very nice, it was a little weird that you couldn't touch the map borders but other than that I enjoyed it. Good job!

i like tiny scale of scale and enemies, this way it is really hard to hit enemies...Asteroids style is always nice! Congrats!

I don't like the idea that you have to download the instructions text file just to be able to understand how to play the game from the HTML5. I'm not sure if the player movement without the player's control is intentional but it kinda scares me, e.g if the player is near a wall, there might be a chance that the player randomly moves toward the wall and restarts the game. The AI made me a bit frustrated as they can walk through walls, not letting the player's bullet hit them.

Other than that, the game is pretty solid and challenging to play. Good idea on using the theme where the player is stuck in a loop of enemies attacking him.
