Ants Inc. by MikeSalyh

[raw]
made by MikeSalyh for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

Being an ant is serious business! Type words quickly to keep these tiny workers productive.

How to Play: * You manage a team of ants! * Keep them working hard by typing all the words that appear on your screen. * If you ignore a word for too long, you'll get fired. Game over! * New ants will join your company over time. Gather all 12 ants to win!

Play it on itch.io! https://mike-salyh.itch.io/antsinc

This game is super fun!! I love all the different ant animations, and the way the game ramps up is challenging yet exciting. I was able to hire 11 ants, hopefully I can get to 12 some time!!

Very cool game! Great game-feel and animations, the game felt overall super-polished. Though I did have a little problem where the bottom of screen was cut of so I couldn't see some words.

@hom-bre thanks for the tip! I updated the itch.io window to make it taller; hopefully that'll resolve the issues!

Nice one, the music is kind of chill (and the game is, at least at the beginning ^^").

This game made me realize how reliant i am on auto-complete and spell checks, lol. I made it to 10 ants, so i think i did OK

It's a quick and fun game, good work!

mavis beacon teaches typing but with ants, simple but effective, makes typing fun.

Cool graphics and sounds especially for a compo
There were a few times where I couldn't read the words which were at the bottom of the screen when it was in fullscreen and where fired because I couldn't figure out what it was. It's bit frustrating :joy:
Here is just a screen of an example where the text overflow the screen : ![howtoplay.png](///raw/99e/43/z/39b48.png)

Thanks for the heads up @hugo1306! You get the golden ant award. :trophy: :ant:
I went back and disabled fullscreen mode, so nobody else has to encounter that bug.
Next LDJam, I'll make sure to QA both regular *and* fullscreen mode haha.

This was a cool typing game. I wish it would have either told me my wpm at the end - or even better - if the words would tell a story about the ants I'm hiring. The art style was simple, but cute and effective. I cared about those little workers. The craziness of having multiple words to take care of was effective in causing me to worry and just chase words as fast as I could. Sometimes it felt like the wrong word was picked up, that's probably because of my mis-typings. I wonder if having backspace as a feature would be useful. Either way - it was pretty cool. Thank you for the game.

@ubershmekel I love WPM idea. If I make any post-compo edits, I'll definitely include that among them.

Saw Birdwards playing this on his stream and had to try it out since I enjoy typing games. Cute entry, loved the simple art style & animations! I appreciated that the game would give you a moment to pause between "levels" and would only start when you began typing the next word. Got 11 ants on my first try, 12 ants on my second :D
Its a bummer full screen wasnt working and would love to see an endless version where you can see how long you can last before an ant gets fired.

Thanks for playing @elysiagriffin! An unlockable endless mode is a great idea! I’ll add that in once the compo judging is finished :)
