Motion Potion by Aphid98

[raw]
made by Aphid98 for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Sir Screamsalot is injured and needs help! Fortunately it's only a flesh wound so there's still plenty of time to rescue him.

You are a magical potion. Your goal is to reach Sir Screamsalot in order to save him with your powerful healing properties. Unfortunately, he's down a hall and up on top of a balcony, and the door leading up to it is closed. Is there still a way to reach him?

Controls

WASD to roll Mouse to look around Space bar to shoot a cork and launch yourself.

Good luck! You'll need it...! motionpotion1.png

nice job! I also made a potion game to save people but not at all in the same way ... yours is much more fun and nice congratulations

Looks really good but it is *WAY TOO HARD*. I can't beat it and it doesn't seem like I'm gaining mastery with more trials, I stopped playing when the physics ejected me out of the library. It's really too bad because the concept is really fun and it looks like you put a lot of effort into this game :/

@fabien-parisot Merci! (Je ne parle pas beaucoup français, donc anglais:) Thank you! We had a great time making the game :)

@lucien-catonnet Hahaha! Yes it is difficult. Unfortunately with the time restrictions we really had to rush level design which makes for a very difficult only level. If we continue work, we will assuredly work on the wonky physics happenings and make a more gradual difficulty curve.

Thanks for playing!

Great job !
The sound is so cool haha, it fits perfectly with the graphics
Well done !

Excellent game ! Took me a little bit of practice to masterize the controls, but that's part of the fun in this kind of games :D
I absolutely love the liquid physic inside the bottle.
Definitely my favorite game so far !

Good game but the camera became really difficult to use when on the bookshelf.

Otherwise really loved the difficulty, kinda reminded me of the game getting over it

@marccspro I'm glad! Yes, I had so much fun on sound design XD

(I'm sorry for my screams they can be quite annoying at times.)

@abaurens Thank you! HAHAHA "masterize" is my favorite new phrase. Yes! Domji did a fantastic job with the bottle.

We really appreciate it!

@larsi I totally agree. I keep calling it a 3d getting over it simulator.
Thanks for playing!

@tybau @forging-foxes Thanks! Yeah, the controls are tough and definitely still have some kinks to work out ;)

@larsi Thanks!

Yeah we came across the camera troubles pretty late on monday, so unfortunately we didn't have time to make it as smooth as we wanted.

As the development progressed, we did in fact start calling the game "3D getting over it simulator".

I'm glad you enjoyed!

I liked the level design very much! But it´s realy hard and a bit to unpredictable. I spend a bit of time to get up there, but I wasn´t able to! :)

@oneils Thanks!

Yeah, @incredibill did such a great job with the bookshelf, it ended up as the main element in our level!
As far as difficulty: unfortunately we were very close to the deadline when we started level design, so we were not able to implement any kind of checkpoints or difficulty scaling. Just really hard really fast!

Thanks for playing :)

lol this was pretty fun AND funny, i struggled to get there but managed to figure out how to use that cork.

This is so good! I love the way this game controls, even (or rather because) it is very hard to master, but it doesn't feel unfair. I made a lot of mistakes and didn't manage to beat it (yet), failed the final jump twice... But (almost) everytime I did, I knew it was because I did something wrong. The graphics and audio are beautiful, but Sir Screamsalot needs to shut the hell up!

Had a hard time beating it. At the start of the game I did land nicely on the table but I didn't know where to go yet. After landing on the floor again I noticed him up there. But at that point I just couldn't help to make the jump again. Still loved the look and feel. Nice art and nice audio!

Amazing art, and awesome sounds! Some of the best sounds I've seen for a gamejam.

Loved the potion shader and the general graphics.

I could see where you were going with the gameplay, but I found the jump to be pretty frustrating, as it was hard to predict what way it would go. The camera was also hard to control. Apart from that, it was a great game!

Great game! really difficult, tried to master the jump and managed to get at the shelves, but got stuck there and didn't knew where to go to. Besides that the game is really fun

@kiririn51 Haha! I'm glad you had fun.

Thant's the hardest part! Once you get the cork down you're on a good road.

Thanks for playing!

@chaosbrick Great feedback!

Yeah, there are definetely a few things that make the game's physics a little jank, which is unfortunate when your movement is based on physics!

I'm glad you enjoyed :)

@sludgekey Yep! That's a level design thing.

We were short on time for that. We wanted to add a small intro cutscene to tell you where to go, but unfortunately it didnt make it into the game!

Thank you! We had fun making it :)

@skovtrolden

Art's on @domji! He pretty much directed the entire art for the game and did all of the shaders/materials.

I actually made all of the sounds (besides the music) myself, It was a really fun experience! I felt like a real live Foley artist XD

Yep! We got a lot of feedback on the jump being jank. Especially the speed on the bottle end-over-end vs. rolling side to side! It's definitely going to need some work :)

Thanks for playing!

@gzuis Thanks!

Well done! The bookshelf is definitely where most of the difficulty lies. I wish we had had more time to work on the camera! I'm sorry you got lost.

I'm glad you made it there though, Most people don't get past the table!

This looks great, and I love the concept. Was a lil bit too tough for me though, I couldn't quite figure out mechanics of jumping. That said, still a delightful little experience, well done!

We streamed your game with Danae: [link to Twitch VOD](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/598538752?t=04h27m28s) (approximate timestamp)

This was great! The agonising cries of the mage created an interesting atmosphere x) As with many physics-based games, I got ~~a bit~~ very distracted trying to take a shortcut, and failing miserably.

I guess the potion seller was right, the potion was too strong.Seeing the poster gave me a good chuckle. I was hoping to finish the game but i gave up after falling behind the chair and getting stuck there. I hope the potion is actually a poison to kill the screaming guy.
Cool game, after some polish and some level design i can see this become one of those Getting over it style live stream games.

Good idea! We'll add the option to kill the screaming guy onto our list.

Yeah! So far we've continued development and are still having a blast.

AWESOME!!!!! That was a souls like ;) i could not beat it and got also stuck behind the chair infront of the book shell. But Awesome- really nice graphics-nice moody torchlight there. I also had the feeling that there were more than one option to reach it to the top and finish the level? Is there a second level? I also liked the sound- the only thing what was annoying over time was the screaming dude. XD i played it now for one hour and couldnt beat it. Really nice work- awesome job. ^^

aawesome game! very similar to our game "Egg's Eggsoddus", lol! I loved that you keept it so simple, minimalism is key here. This gave you time to polish the scene. Kudos! This inspired me for the next game jam to keep it more simple.

@julian-hartinger Thank you so much! Yeah that chair was unfortunately placed XD

As far as levels go, there is only one at the moment. There is some pretty rocking victory music though, thanks to @emrosie. There are a few ways to get there though, some harder than others!

Yep, the screaming XD we wanted a mute feature but time ran out! Sounds was fun to design though xD

Thanks for playing!

This was. A journey. Nice job overall! It's... a little frustrating, but I get the feeling it's supposed to be that way, haha. First game in the jam I've played that I have no complaints about, have a gold star. (Part of me feels bad that I don't have more to say since it was so good but hey! Maybe thats all I need to tell ya)
