The Unicorn and the need for coffee..! by INCD021
So Phil is stranded on a floating island without coffee. The horror! By pure accident Phil noticed the smell of coffee from a unicorn nearby, and desperate to get coffee, he caught it and tried to figure out where the smell came from and how to turn, whatever it was, into a nice cup of liquid caffeine. So most important is to keep the Unicorn alive, to keep the flow of coffee coming. And what could be simpler than feeding it exactly what it needs? Nothing, just keep going.
Extra challenge: Find all 3 way of dying.
Controls:
- Move - wasd or arrow keys
- Pickup stuff - Space (hold)
- Do action - e (Open close gate, toggle switch, draw water from well)
That's it, just try to figure it out. No tutorial here! Only learning by doing.
NOTE: I've been told the audio is a bit loud, so please turn down the volume before playing. (will fix when allowed) Known bugs: - Standing on a coffeebean while feeding the Unicorn, will prevent you from picking it up! Workaround, just walk away from the bean and back on it. - You can get stuck on the collider for the pen gate, when inside the pen. Workaround, move up, left and down (that is go around it)

I tried to get all the audio to be the same volume, any specific sample that was louder than the others?
Second, yes the unicorn dies.. BTW, thanks for playing.
The animation for dropping an object on the ground was much meatier than I expected - it caught me by surprise and made me laugh. Though, it's hard to hold onto things (I'd rather have tap to pick up and tap to drop instead of hold to carry) so it can get quite distracting.
I'd suggest having more walking animation (or at least have the Phil face in a direction maybe) if you had time! Nice work.
More than one sound is the mockup sound made, early.. There are as always room for improvment.
Thanks again for playing and the details feedback.
The description tricked me: it is Phil who needs coffee to survive, the unicorn seems pretty immortal to me!
Thanks for playing.
Seems like the there are one ending, bad one, that people just don't find. Kind of interesting why not. Hmm. Thanks for playing and rating
Did not expect the unicorn to escape... or to get turned into coffee =D
The game is based on Phil Strahl aka. [PixelProphecy](https://ldjam.com/users/philstrahl) if you don't know him, he like coffee very much.
It's a cool simon says spinoff, for sure, and funnily random. I think I would improve the graphics and add animations to give it further charm. I was a bit confused at what a flower was, since it was the size of the character, haha
Thanks for the feedback and rating
Glad you liked it, and thanks for playing.
Like the humor and graphics.
It would be perfect if you would add some animations for main character and some music. It's a bit boring after few minutes without it.
Thanks for the feedback
I read your bio and was glad to see that I at 43 I am not the oldest person who loves the creative fun of Ludum Dare. We represent the C64 generation. Kids these days will never understand. Cheers!
C64 still holds a special place in my heart, but guess that's just because it was my first real computer.
Loved that you could actually hold the entiere memory layout in your head, and the control of assembler language. Now that you doesn't like :unicorn:, are there any other fable animal you like? Chimeras?
The game is hilarious! Somehow it feels polished even without the basic walking animation. What's your secret? :D
In the ending I waited for dots to overflow the screen, but it didn't happen. :(
I have no secret, 100% panic for 48 hours. Did follow the 4 rules I stated on the Pixel Prophecy Discord server.
- No idea is stupid, weird or to dumb. Allow yourself to create something completely nuts.
- DON’T optimize anything, or implement everything according to design patterns. Make unoptimized spaghetti code.. Just make it work!
- Try WORK BACKWARDS! As suggested by Christer McFunkypants Kaitila in the tweet. "Photoshop a beautiful mockup (the screenshot you wish it was) for the 1st several hours"
- Art doesn’t have to make sense! Look at a C64 game like Monty on the run, where you are met with enemies like floating smiling heads, teapots, heads with feet and huge noses, angry ghosts, flying mugs, clocks with wings, the list goes on.
Thanks for playing
I love the Soundeffects and the ways to die. Had a lot of fun playing it and it was an awesome experience.
WEll Done Nice Job
It was fun to watch how you approached the game, and that you, as the first player, found the missing colliders around the island. Also you really waited just to see the last way to die! I myself wouldn't have had the patience.
Thanks for the kind words
My "Completionist" trigger triggered and so yes, I waiteded. Thanks for joining in the stream. :)
Thanks for playing
