Keep the Infernal Babybird alive! by Javad-tab

[raw]
made by Javad-tab for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Hi everyone! This is my first Jam and I can not say how much I've learned from it... So now this is my first completed game! Don't worry... It's much more happy and fun, than the name suggests!

The goal is simple: to protect and feed the baby-bird as long as we could!

https://youtu.be/8aJaIoyZW7A

The baby-bird has two stages:

  • Unhatched stage, in which you only need to move it around
  • Hatched stage, which happens after about 40 seconds. Now you need to move him around ,feed him, protect him from those mice which are after the poor little creature!

These are the keys:

-Z: Emit paralyzing shots at the enemies. -X: Shock Explosion: If you are double charged. Emits a powerful shock explosion and throws mice outside the platform. -C: When you have a golden ball above your head you can feed the bird by standing near him and pressing C.

notes: -the ball floating on your heads means it's ready to eat, when you pick up the next ball, this one gets eaten. -Be careful, sometimes, a mice could hold on to the bird, then the shock throws the bird away too! -Maximum amount of charge is two, Don't waste more golden balls by eating more of them.

This game has been made by Godot Engine, and Krita and no extra resources. Sadly, It doesn't contain any audio!

Enjoy!

The art is amazing and probably took a long time. :)
Dark and chilly ambient music would have been amazing for this project.

Gameplay-wise, it feels good to move the egg around, but it is still a challenge to keep the small one alive. :)
Good job

Clever game design! The ambiance could be amazing with some sound, but very very good for a first jam alone!!

Cool concept, though the gameplay feels a bit awkward. It was a bit frustrating that you could only stun the enemies with the basic attack, and it wasn't clear when the X attack was ever available, so it felt like you just had to run around hoping you could push the bird out of harm's way as more and more enemies spawned. Wonder if it would feel better if it was more of a twin-stick type game, ie you can push and shoot in different directions. Still a cool idea, nice work.

I really liked the bird and its animations. Felt very real. It felt a bit awkward that the enemies only accumulated and pushing, feeding and stunning wasn't very easy. So finally I decided that it was best for the both of us if I pushed it over the edge.
