[raw]
made by jharler for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Screen_1.png

You are taking a leisurely stroll through a flowery forest when you come across a flower monster, Tulip, stuck in a hole. Tulip needs to eat colored flowers to stay alive. Can you pluck and feed them to Tulip fast enough?

Controls:

WASD or Controller - Movement

Space/Click/Fire - Pluck flower or feed Tulip

There is no end to this game. The goal is to see how long you can last before Tulip passes out from lack of nutrition.

Jam Notes

My goal with this Ludum Dare was to create a game my kids could have fun playing. This game was intended to be easy to play, fun to look at and silly. I hope it makes you smile.

Tools used: Unity, ZBrush, Blender, Substance Painter, Photoshop, Audacity, FL Studio

I love it! Reading your jam notes before playing made it extra wholesome. The graphics are great, the sound design too, and the animations on the monster and the character running were amazing. The one critique I have is that when the monster is low on energy and you feed him the music transition can sound janky. Your game did make me smile :) I got 3:37, wonder if anyone can beat me...

Brilliant and fun little game! Your intentions of it being easy, fun and silly are spot on. You tried doing one thing and executed it perfectly. Loved it!

Love the art style ! That's a pretty cute monster. And really love the way this dude run !
Maybe a little bit more challenge would have been nice but overall it was really nice !
Edit. didn't see it was for kids ! So don't mind the comment on the difficulty ! Nice :)

I am very impressed with this game. The artwork is great and the visuals of the game are great as well. The audio of the monster was perfect and the explanation was short and sweet. Very easy to understand. Great job.

You will clearly make a lot of smiles with this game :) That was a great experience! I am wondering if, particularly for a kids' game, you should have added an arrow or something to indicate where the monster is, in case you're lost. Very good job !

Really nice art and sounds! I'd say you reached your goals. The character running animation was really funny as well. I had to let the monster pass out just to see what would happen, sorry, but his animation was really good. Overall really cool! Good job!

@jakobthequizguy Thanks for your kind words, as well as your criticism. You're absolutely right about the music transition. It's definitely an area that could use some improvement.

@generalsturgeon Thank you!

@karas It went against my own instincts not to add more challenge to the game. That may have been one of the more difficult parts of this jam for me. :)

@rigdonware I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks!

@barbiche My kids really enjoyed playing this, so I feel like it was a success. There actually is an indicator arrow of where the monster is when you get far enough away from him. It might be too subtle though, if you didn't notice it.

@marcusnystrand Thanks!

@danilo-sadzinski I appreciate your kind words!

@codekiw Thanks so much!

@gamesplusjames Thanks for playing James! I'm glad you had fun with it.

This is a really fun game, and the graphics are really cuteeee,,, I love 3d graphics in jam games cause imo that takes some real talent to be done so quickly owo. And doing this for your kids just makes it so much more wholesome. It's fun and can be repetitive but I like that, I tend not to play games that take too much of my focus since I'm doing alot of stuff for school. I think with some chill music this game would be something I could spend my saturday on.

@wakobu Thank you!

@zerohbeat That run animation made my 6 year old ROFL when he first saw it. Glad you like it too!

@thedoctoroftime It's easier for me to make decent looking 3D graphics than decent looking 2D graphics. Thanks for your kind words and for taking the time to play!

I liked it! the main gameplay cycle gets a little stale but it feels like there is humor potential in the idea!

The animations were both hilarious and also really well made! There's a lot of polish here even in the tutorial. Nice work.

I love the art style and the animations! Is this a homemade shader? The monster's voice is a nice touch, with the 4th wall breaking controls explanations, that reminded me of N64 Rare games like Banjo-Kazooie or Conker. :smile:

I like the attention to detail like displaying an arrow so the player doesn't get lost. The music transition issue is no big deal, I imagine this could be solved by playing the new song from the current time of the previous one (if that makes sense).

Great job on this submission, very charming game!

Can't say I've ever seen facial animation in a LD game before! And that run cycle, wow. *chef kiss*
