Inanis by FabiGhindaru

[raw]
made by FabiGhindaru for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

INANIS is a meta adventure game in which a guy named Blob tries to help his circle friend go back home.

(Btw Inanis is void in latin).

Key features:

  • A short and funny story about geometric shapes

  • Interesting gameplay involving smashing space to dash around

  • Upgrades and strange enemies.

  • Cool easter eggs

Patch 0.1: I listened to the feedback people gave me so I added a few bug fixes and improvements! ^^

Great game! Was pretty fun for a while, but the grinding for coins got a bit repetitive. I gave up when I lost to the boss, just because I had spent so much time grinding for those stats. Humor was good, not-meta was great, dancing slav put this up to a 5/5 overall.

Wow. Wow. I was getting ready to stop playing and then it said my name, and I'm glad I kept playing! This is really great, and so much content for something made in such a short amount of time. It was hilarious too. No complaints, great game.

VERY nice game, jokes and references are on point, animation budget spent well, dash effect is very cool but couldn't win that first level or something, over all a solid 4.8/5

Really clever, I liked the dash combat and the ways you used the frame itself. Very Good!

I enjoyed a lot of the dialog, and the graphics and music were impressive! I made it to the skeletal boss once and got destroyed, then decided to stop playing. It felt like time spent farming upgrades was more important than skill, since the projectiles moved too fast for me to dodge...

Really enjoyed the easter egg I found! Also loved the details you gave characters when interacting with them more than once. Nice!

A very nice game, I like the fighting mechanics but there's a lot of farming to do to beat the boss, but still enjoyed playing it 4.9/5 ! :P

Nice game. Final boss was too much for me. Probably should have leveled up more in first stage :)

Cheers!

Fun game, though the meta commentary was not always accurate. I just don't know how you could possibly beat that boss. Whomst'd'veever does that is a true GAMER MOMENT.

Music was great, dialogue was good. The dash mechanic was welcoming. Good entry!

The music is really good. I grabbed my guitar and started jamming along. The intro music really had me in a groove. The pixel art is kept very simple, but effective in that at least the entire game's art matches in the same artistic scheme. The game mechanics seems to be working as intended. It's a nice entry for the game jam. I wish you the best.

Good idea, add more improvements for the character, and more types of enemies, and then it will be generally great!

You done well to squeeze out extra from a relatively simple mechanic. I wish there was a marker or arrow that was pointing to the shop so when it's off screen I know where to go instead of blindly running around!

The graphics were simple but chunky and neat. I liked that when I died it wasn't just the same game over room, but showed messages that felt like the game was expecting it. So that was nice, as was the persistent coinage and gifts for dying. That worked out very well. I managed to get to the void and kill a few enemies.

It was very smooth to play; the window resizing as the game was loading was insane. I've never seen that done before. It also had my name in it! That was cool and felt very personal.

But with WASD movement I'm not sure space bar and shift are the best options for dashing...it made me feel like I need more fingers to pull off downward dashes with one hand.

Overall a decent package and a nice progression of upgrades etc. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your entry!

Cute and fun game! Wasn't expecting to be sucked in, but I really wanted to finish it. The meta humor was nice too. (not enough hardbass tbh)

Really really enjoyed what I played! Spent far too much time farming upgrades at the beginning, but apparently not long enough to be able to defeat the boss lol. Appreciated the meta-humour a lot. Self aware games are very rare, and I'm not sure I've ever played one that has a sense of humour focused around that. Anyway I'd definitely be sucked into this if it were a full game

Lots of fun to play, with some prety pixel graphics. I think a bit of dithering or shading could make the graphics *pop* a bit more, but they where still nice. Well done!

:notes:

Dashing through the void

with a circle by my side

through enemies we go

defeating them alright

:notes:

The boss has bullet spam

but I can just respawn

collect more coins, buy more upgrades

defeat the boss at dawn

:notes:

--- ok, this makes about as much sense as your story, but I felt like you might enjoy it. The game feels awesome and I am a big fan of silly 4th wall breaks.

The only bummer for me was that beating the boss seemed to be less a factor of skill and more of the number of upgrades you bought.

See me laughing at your silly jokes:

@rialgar this made my day so much better thank you for playing man! ^^ (Yes I know the boss was too hard but the reason why i didn't make it easier was because on of my friends somehow defeated it in 1 hit so I thought that if I do that it will be way easier). Anyway as I said thank you so much! <3

I love, basically everything _about_ this game. You made me laugh, I gasped when it said my name, I got annoyed when I died in the void and spent ages grinding upgrades so I could beat the boss... I even got annoyed when I pressed E too many times and missed one of the lines of dialog. Which, was, _gold_.
Good game guys.

I died 9 times and defeated the boss with some luck (LD version). The idea is impressive that it is the player who keeps the hero alive. Music and dashing effects are also great.

I think more meta-level descriptions or dialog can be added in the game. For example, if the player leveled up speed to the maximum of the gauge, the hero may have some comments on his speed or thinking about the will power the player gives to him.

Overall the game is nice and innovative. Thank you for the great work!

The final boss is really hard. I enjoyed the player upgrades. It gives a sense of progression. I loved how the screen size gets bigger and bigger at the start of the game and how the title screen changes every time the player changes the zone. I had a lot of fun playing the game. Good job!

I died at the final boss, maybe a little too hard to defeat. The game has a good dose of humor and it's funny to play.
A question, where do you get the name of the player and how in gamemaker? Good job man.

@nuanda79 Thanks 4 playing! About the name, gms has a function called environment_get_variable and by adding environment_get_variable("USERNAME") you get the name of the pc as a string. Hope it helps! ^^
