Rescue Mission by good.enough

[raw]
made by good.enough for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Wow, I never knew you could get this much done if you just didn't go to bed! Lol, but yeah, I didn't get to bed until around 5:30. After an hour's nap I was up and at it again, and for the first time, I think, I had enough time to make something decent. Well, really, it's around the level of my Pogo Stick Granny, but there is an actual end goal and a graphic at the end that shows how well you did so that people can take a screen shot and show off.

Alright, enough talking! I'm currently waiting on a webgl build as I write this, and I've got to go make the itch page, so yeah. See ya'll in the comments maybe!

So, my builds are still uploading, I'll be updating this as soon as they finish.
...I've done this before, but I'm having trouble with github...
..and, I've figured it out. Source is up! I may be able to get a mac build up tomorrow. I've only tried this once before, and it didn't work, so we'll see.

@good-enough I had a lot of fun with the game. The mechanics are good, just kind of hard to switch between the two mouse buttons to attack and move, I would assign one of those two to maybe a key. I loved the music... until it stopped half way :c. Overall a great work!

I finished it! With only 1 boat remaining though.
It controls very smoothly and I like the style, great job!
My only remark is that the ships are rather far apart, and it's hard to tell what's going on offscreen.
But I had fun with it, good game!

@steven-c Yeah, I had plans to add a minimap bar at the bottom with ship locations and health, and the locations of the enemies in your sight range, but I ended up scrapping that idea along with several others that landed just outside the scope circle.

@rjerez192 I'm not sure how it would be difficult to switch between left and right mouse buttons unless you only have like one finger, in which case, my condolences. :P

The difficult part there is supposed to be balancing flying with shooting. If you want to, you can just stand on a boat and snipe using the enemy indicator curvy things to aim, but you sacrifice some range that way, and won't be able to keep all of the boats alive.

I didn't understand how to kill the monkeys without being armed, but I tried enough to have fun, so good job ;)

@lereveur well, they're not real arms, but instead of arms the character has rocket engines calibrated for normal rocket propulsion as well as firing oddly hard (due to not being set to trigger) fire balls. You fire with the left mouse button, and fly with the right.

Well, I don't understand how I have find how to fly, and not how to fight  Therefore, I gave your game another play, and I can say : it's better when you can kill those monkeys without going straight on them and lose life by the process…

Gee whiz, a lot of poor animals died in the name of delivering cargo. Haha, great game!

It was epic battle with suicide monkeys! Good work!

Quite difficult on a laptop/trackpad. Probably put the controls on the itch/ld page description too! I enjoyed playing with the physics and shooting those monkey devils!

This was fun! The music is really really good (until it cuts out). The gameplay is wacky and fun. I think the game needs a cursor though. Without a cursor, I ended up dragging the mouse outside the game window and losing focus a lot.

I also got to the ending building (with only 1 boat) and the game didn't really end. The boat sailed off into the white fog, but nothing told me the game was over and I could still go back and shoot more monkeys (not complaining)

Overall, this was a really fun experience :)

Nice game!

The controls are probably kinda annoying by design :) I always fly in the wrong direction first.
I chose to stay in the middle and shoot at the cats (it's cats on parachutes, definetively!)

I saved 3 ships! A ending message would be nice, when you reach the right side.

I really liked the music, the controls took time to get used to but were fun. I did get stuck in the water and couldn't get out. Maybe you should die if you fall down there!

This was brilliant :D
I tend to dislike "pixel art in high res graphics" but this works somehow. Although the explosion art is too low res to my liking. The water looks very lovely. The music and sound effects are very nice. The fact that enemies are kamikaze monkeys wraps this all up in a very cohesively random fun game. Good job!

Amazing and intuitive controls, especially for a game jam. The boat physics and art was incredible. But the best part of this project was the audio! Amazing stuff! Great job.

There seemed to be a bug or positioning issue with your robot if you land in the water, can be incredibly hard to get out of it once you're in there. Otherwise, nice game. I liked the audio and sound effects that went with it, was able to play along quite easily and enjoyed it.

Hey all, I'm really sorry about being gone. I actually got really sick starting around Monday or Tuesday after the compo ended, and have only just started to recover. Lol, it was just a really brutal cold though, not coronavirus, which probably would have actually been better...

Anyway, thanks @everyone for the comments, I'll get to playing your games as soon as possible! I've got 6 hours, so I may be able to make it...

A little too slow for my liking. Text is way to long and the kamikaze monkey density too little.

Graphics are charming and great sound design. enjoyed shooting the parachutes and spinning them around
