Circus Daddy by PatteDeCanaard

[raw]
made by PatteDeCanaard for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

It's "bring your kid to work day" at the circus where you work as an acrobat.

s1.png

You brought your baby girl for tonight's big show.

She might be a bit annoying if you want to do your job properly, as she slips off your hands every time you jump. Be careful, if you drop her : she might get hurt... and her mom won't be happy about it... So you have to do your best to keep her alive for the show must go on.

Made the baby fall into a crack on stage three, soft locked myself. 10/10

nice effort here but the controls are simply bad. the baby was flying all over the place, which was funny. i found i could complete most level by simply throwing the baby to the end of the level and then simply getting there later. thanks for making it.

Excellent game! Fun and easy to play but still challenging! I really like it! Sometimes the baby didn't go where I thought it would but it made the whole thing funnier. Good job!

Great fun! I didn't find the controls too tricky most of the time, as others have mentioned. Some nice level design and fun concept. I also slam dunked the baby into a crack at one point where it couldn't be retrieved. Not that I am saying I did it on purpose or anything...

Funny twist on a 3D platformer! :baby:
Maybe the baby should lose health when you roll over it with a huge ball! :joy:

Not terible but to be honest the games kinda a buggy mess at this point, i dont feel like i have much control over anything and everything feels, well off...

lol that was fun
the baby is a clever idea, you really need to think when you jump and found it funny when you land perfectly where you want to go but then you realize the baby is somewhere else
The clapping was a nice addition, felt like i was being watched :D

Nice game and very fun idea. The spotlight was sometimes shining where it wasn't supposed to and the game crashed at the level with cannons in the beginning

This game is AMAZING! Great graphics, sweet sound and music design, and not to forget the superb game design. Controls are polished and responsive, everything feels nice to play and the gameplay mechanic is simple and is put to the test with different challenges. And lets not forget the humor! Only thing a little off is the theme, since you're putting your baby in danger instead of keeping it alive ;)

Hi I just played your game and really loved it! Dropping the baby on jump was a really fantastic mechanic. I'm also super impressed with how many assets, obstacles and levels you were able to make in the jam!

The one suggestion I would make is to make it harder - I think honestly dropping the baby a single time should kill it (maybe I'm just cruel haha).

Loved your game, I hope your team is really proud of your submission!

This was really entertaining and hilarious, i finished it on one run without dying. Liked the mechanics a lot, especially riding the balls with my baby born hahaha

I got an ot question: How do you make a single .exe out of a Godot Engine export, I mean without needing the .pck file.
Hernz
25. Apr 2020 · 16:10 UTC
@herniewise Thank you for your nice comment ! You can make a single .exe in Godot by going to "Project > Export > Windows Desktop" and check the "Embed Pck" option. We are using Godot 3.2.1.stable.official.

Cool idea! It was cool how you have to commit to your jumps but you still have the option to move during. I liked the interaction with the trampoline also. The graphics were great and the stages looks awesome 🙂 I also liked the little spot light following like it was really a circus 😄 a nice touch.
Really well done! I liked it a lot!

Finally a game with a circus theme! Always wanted to develop one by myself haha! Well your work is awesome and you definitely deserve great feedback! Good luck!

Loved it! The whole atmosphere really adds to the enjoyment and it looks fantastic. It's pretty forgiving but that can be good or bad. I definitely felt I could mess up a lot with not to much consequence but the other way around might be worse and just lead to frustration so it's probably fine. The game crashed on me twice on the level with the cannons so I'm not sure how much more there is to the game but what I played I enjoyed a lot. Nice work.

Woo! Thanks for making this fun instead of difficult :)

Baby has plenty of hit points, the atmosphere is great, and I get applause. Trampolines feel kinda weird, but overall I dig it. Those big balls are next level.

This is hilarious! I love your interpretation of the theme "keep it alive". Also it is funny that the game over text is *divorced* in this game. Yes, I replayed the game just to see what happens on game over after beating the whole game. The graphics is great too. I love the atmosphere of the circus very much. Well done!

@notan-lemon I'm so happy that somebody saw the "Divorced" joke.
Thank you a lot for playing !

I thought the idea was really fun, and I liked the scenery you chose together with the mood and music :)

I think the mechanics need more polishing, although I feel like that's a pretty complicated mechanic to create for only 3 days! Therefore, good job already!
At first I felt it was a bit unfair that you also lose the baby on the trampoline as it sometimes felt like you would never be able to get a hold of it again lol, especially if both were jumping at different heights, but when I managed to.. manage this area I also felt incredibly proud of myself, so maybe tweak that as well :)
for example, if both jump at different heights, why not after every bounce let the baby get closer to your height, and when it's the correct height make the player grab it and if he/she times it right, the baby is safe as a reward :) (althought I can't code and idk how different that is from your current controls)

also, you might want to tweak your colliders a bit:

all in all a fun, idea and game, you should continue to work on it! :)
