Futuristic Racing in a tribute to F-Zero and MarioKart

screen2.png

Stuck in a loop.. err In Racing games you go in a loop how about that? Sure why not.

Instructions:

Left Mouse or left CTRL or Z or N to accelerate, Right Click or ALT or X or M to break/reverse. A, D or Left/Right Arrow to steer. Also supports gamepad (at least XBox controller is all I tested)

You have limited Health and lose it by crashing into walls, if it all goes, its game over man.

Added a WebGL version as it actually seems to work fine and visually only a few things (shadows mainly) look a bit worse.

Updates

v1.01 Bug fix if returned to Main screen after playing and chose another course game would break. Added Web Version and so added alternative input keys that don't conflict with browser shortcuts, since that would make the browser version unplayable.

Nicely done, loved the graphics and art style, controls seemed a little sluggish though

definitely a f-zero vibe, but it would have been better if everything felt faster

(Played on HTML5) Good take on the theme, my team made a racing game too. The graphics and art style are cool, I like them. The controls and physics need more work ´cause it feels a bit weird to play. I´m not sure why but my vehicle was way slower than the IA controlled ones. The music and audio are ok. I liked the tracks too, nice detail to use different heights. Cool concept that could work with more polish, good work!

Liked the audio and art style, fits nicely together. Though your steering vs what the Ai does is impossible for me to catch up, which is a bit sad. Overall nice work though!

I didn't immediately understand how to drive, then I understood, but it's hard :) It seemed to me that the initial speed is quite low, and as a result, it is too high in the presence of such sharp turns of the track. In any case, in general, I liked the game and its setting :) Thanks for the great game!

Loved the aesthetics in this. Induces a very 80s feeling in me.

The AI is way too good though, I had no chance of catching up once they started flying away ^^

Very neat racing game! Mood wise, I think you nailed it, with the colours, and sharper ship/car shapes. The music is very techno and this all works quite well together to feel very futuristic. It fits the stuck in a loop theme really well too!

I'm inclined to agree the controls needed a bit more polish to be perfect. The level design was very well done (and I loved the way the maneuvering was on inclines and declines - the tilts felt very dynamic!), and seemed like perfect tracks, and I think it was the lack of a way to drift that made the sharp corners harder to make. There are a couple spots as well where the camera is obscured by the walls of the track, which makes maneuverability harder.

Mechanically, I loved the variety of buttons you'd allow for so I could play in the most comfortable manner! :D

I think I liked track two the best!

As others said, It did feel like the AI was just superior in every way, but other than that was pretty cool.

I think the initial speed its a little to slow, but its a pretty solid game! Good job

I enjoyed it but there doesn't seem to be a way to beat the AI. I wish the brake was more effective too

Thanks everyone for the feedback, as pretty much everyone has said the player is a bit on the slow side and the AI is a bit too good by comparison. As pretty much always for me, I didn't end up leaving enough to play test near the end and balance things out better because I overscoped (I originally planned a Mario Kart Grand Prix over at least 3 courses ha) and was wrestling with blender adjusting course 2 up to the last minute trying to stop everyone getting stuck on inclines. Maybe next time i'll manage the time better (but I doubt it).

I liked the feel of the level but agree with the rest of the comments on speed and player controls. I ended up dying because I either hit all the walls or had to come to near a dead stop to turn. I am impressed that the AI element was in there though.

Pretty cool entry, but I would have expected to accelerate with up arrow. Had to look up the controls from the description. The music was cool and mellow.

pretty neat game! just a bummer the controls meant I almost couldn't turn and got absolutely trounced by the AI (tried webGL and windows). I loved the visuals though! Hope you can fix the physics so we can play it as it was intended :D

I want the thing those guys were using when the game started. My car was way too slow xD. Nice composition overall, the music suits the mood. The controls are a bit clunky, but it reminded me of F-Zero indeed. Was expecting the spinning for damage maneuver tho. Good work!

I like the overall concept of the game because I used to play F-Zero a lot when I was a kid and just love to play any kind of f-zero-ish game. I felt the feel of the driving was a bit sluggish and the turning a bit too slidey, and I ended up slamming into the walls more often than not and wondering what the heck I could be doing wrong that the AI cars aren't doing. Music was pretty cool. Liked the 3D-ness of everything.
