LO2OP by MrWahloh

[raw]
made by MrWahloh for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Our first ever Ludum Dare entry is here, LO2OP!

In this game you are a brave little blood cell with one simple task: transport oxygen to body parts that need it the most and make sure the body stays vital.

  • Select the most effective route with the arrow-keys.
  • Take oxygen from the lungs, and give it to the organs with the spacebar.
  • Repair wounds with the R-key.

The game is playable in the browser, just follow the link to Itch.io down below. There's also a Windows build available as download on the Itch.io page.

Our interpretation of the "Stuck in a loop" theme was flipped, instead of trying to get out of the loop we want our blood cells to stay inside of the loop so that it can keep your body vital.

Ofcourse with every GameJam you'll end up scrapping or simplifying features to make it within the deadline. We ended up scrapping and simplifying stuff like the wounds, these were supposed to cost oxygen to repair, and statistics like Vitality and Blood, which were supposed to add some more depth to the way you'd end the game. Oh, and we all apologize for the horrific code, it is definitely not our proudest work.

Cool idea! The WebGL build was slightly stuttery for me but it was still playable and not super distracting. The game got hard fast. The graphics look amazing and the sound effects are very enjoyable. I guess the game could have used a longer ease in period since it got a little hard too fast for me and there was quite much information visible from the very start. Idea and execution was nevertheless super well done!

Great take on the stuck in the loop theme! Graphics are great. I quickly figure you can just hold R / Space, which made the game a little easier for me, but boy it got harder pretty fast. Sounds were okay, background music fit the aesthetics pretty well. Good mini-game!

It took a while to get the hang of things, but once I figured it out it was really really fun! Great job!

Nice execution!
The game has a lot of information to tell the player and it is very clear which organ needs oxygen NOW!
The only problem is that the wounds are not that noticeable, and their impact on the organ health is unclear.
But it is fun and intense!
The graphic seems out of a real game, not a gamejam game. Well Done!

@bradur Thanks for the review. We noticed that the WebGL build has a bit of a stutter, we didn't have any time to do optimization though. The last hours have been mostly balancing and we noticed that the ramp up could be a bit steep but we also wanted to let the player know that it was not overly easy in a couple minutes of gametime. Once again thanks for the review, we enjoyed our first Ludum Dare.

Nice entry! The aesthetic and music is what makes this game, it feels very medical. It's a little frustrating to tell where you are needed because the UI is a little obtuse. Other than that, I enjoyed it

Very original and matches the theme perfectly, good sound and graphics. A little too difficult for my taste, but that is not the game's fault. All in all good game.

Wow this is a great concept with nice execution. Optimizing your loop while still accounting for wounds makes for a pretty intense experience.

I got 244200. I didn't realize I could hold space instead of spamming until later.
