The Loop by minibobbo

[raw]
made by minibobbo for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

demo.gif UPDATE - I added the S key as a secondary shield key for Firefox users since the spacebar sends them to the bottom of the screen. The rest of the game is exactly the same.

Aim and Fire with the mouse.

Hold the mouse button down for continuous fire. Or wait for your weapon to charge.

Hold the S KEY or SPACE to bring up a shield and block the enemy bullets.

A loving homage to the SNES Super Scope game Battle Clash, Time Crisis, and Pacific Rim.

Humanity thought that giving AI control of automated factories would bring in a lifetime of peace and plenty. Unfortunately the AI rebelled and produced giant battle robots. Humanity created THE LOOP, a giant wall circling the factory. The robots will break through eventually, so you are the last remaining Battle Mech patrolling THE LOOP destroying what you find.

That was awesome! The graphics and retro vibes were on point, and the gameplay was fun. This is one of my favorite submissions so far. Good job!

This is really good! I never could win but I enjoyed attempting it several times. Got a bit easier when I realized I could hold the mouse button down to auto fire, might be worth mentioning you can do that in the description.

Loved the art for this game and the sound. I was unable to use the shield as whenever I pressed spacebar the whole page would scroll down, this might be my fault but it meant I couldn't block ever

Thanks for allowing me to relive a little piece of my childhood. This game smacks of the 'good old days' of the SNES/Genesis era. Everything from the music to the sound effects to the graphics screams 90s console system. As a bonus, the game was fun as well ;) I destroyed that AI good and proper. Great job!

Pretty fun battle and nice pixel art. I have a similar Shield idea in my original idea of my game, and finally I droped it. Your game handled this mechanism very well, and make the battle far more exciting. Got lot of fun from it! Good job!

Short and sweet is how I would describe this game. I would love to know the technical details behind programming essentially a 2D on the rails shooter. Its so clever, and really well polished. For a Compo game this is absolutely in my top ten games right now.

Pressing space scrolled down in my browser (firefox) even when the game window had focus, so it ended up being a race against time for me. Still, felt like it had potential to be quite fun.

Fun little game although it took me a minute to realize there was a bar at the bottom and that it might not be effective to just spam shots.

This is awesome and very fun too!
I even tried with no-damage + shoot boss-only run.

It was fun! I missed this kind of games in the arcade machines. At first, I couldn't block the enemy's projectiles right, I thought there was some kind of timing needed or it just hits too early (I was waiting for the projectile to get bigger and bigger as it gets nearer the player. But I learned I could hold my shield up indefinitely because I thought the meter below is a shield meter or something. Turns out it was a charge attack.

This was a lot of fun to play. It was a little confusing as to what to do at first, but once I got the hang of it I had a lot of fun. Great job, team!

Cool graphics and gamedesign, it's pretty hard for the first time but cool skill progression when playing. Also i'd like change mouse sensitivity)

I like the feeling of movement and speed with the background scrolling and the shooting effects feel very satisfying. A nice little shooter, that yes very much reminded me of super scope, an excellent homage. Great entry.

Great game! Once I realized I could hold and leave the shield up so I did not have to time it, I won! Can't wait to see more levels! Awesome!

Nice old-school boss battle! I like the shield mechanic.

A nice little game! I do wish there was a bit of variety to enemy patterns (i.e. when the drones are destroyed, the rest would, say, start to move around the boss), but other than that the game feels pretty smooth. Loved the particle effect on blocking enemy projectiles!

Short but efficient game! I had fun, it didn't waste my time, and since it was a samll game, each aspect of it were well polished! I would hope more dev (including me) take example of this scope! Good work!
